Just when I think to have a little bit of optimism about the future of the Nationals, this has to happen.

It definitely sucks for him and Nationals fans. On the other hand, it seems like every time a pitcher has this surgery, they come back sooner than expected and perform like there was never a problem in the first place. Here's wishing Strasburg well.

Mmm, this is bad news no matter how you look at it, but hopefully he'll come out of it alright. Makes you wonder if some minor league time would have helped, or if this would have happened regardless.

Sucks, but it's probably the end already for a guy whose career hasn't even started yet. Tommy John surgery on a player that age is definitely not a good sign of what's to come, which is likely a career of battling injuries.

You have to figure, getting Tommy John surgery at 22 or 23 means a good chance he could need it again in the future. My older brother new a guy who was only 27 and pitched for the A's, but had 2 Tommy Johns before age 26 and never was able to get anywhere with his career after that.
