Well being a woman with a few tattoos, I'd say it depends on the woman and what kind of tattoos they are. They can be very sexy though IMO. But perhaps you were asking for a man's point of view.

For me, it would have to depend on the type of woman.

If we're talking aboud a fifty year old, grizzled chain smoking biker chick, then they present a turn off for me.

However, if we're talking about the Bif Naked, suicide girls type, then I would definately have to say that would be cool and even sexy in a dangerous type of way.

But then, I've always been a sucker for women who can snap me in two like a toothpick.

As a gal sporting 6 currently, and planning on more in the future, I'd have to cast my vote for "awesome". Of course, it does depend on the girl. Not all can pull them off, nor should they try. I tend to find them incredibly sexy on both gals and guys, though. 😉

i like tattoos if not done to the extreme. on both men and women. i dont have any, but if i ever got up the nerve (and past my husband) i would want a feather on my ankle, and maybe a hummingbird on my shoulder or lower back.

Several good points here on the pros and cons, but I'm not a fan. I'll refrain from how I really feel about them, don't wanna hurt any feelings here, but suffice to say, "No, thanks."

I work around thousands of shoppers every day. Everybody and their mother has a tattoo, it seems. I appreciate a well-done piece of artwork, and find it amusing that I'll get these, "What-the-Hell are YOU looking at?!?" glares from people when I hone-in on their body-art. If you didn't want the attention, you probably shouldn't have gotten the ink, and then purposefully worn a halter-top, or hip-hugger pants, or whatever clothing accessory you chose to best display the fact the you have a tattoo.

It's kindof interesting to me to see trends in tattoos arise. For instance, I see alotta black and brown people with neck ink(esp. names written in a florid cursive style), but have seen few yellow or pale people with these.

I think most tatoo's on girls are sexy although they can be a turn off. If I see a girl with a butterfly on her lower back or rose on her leg its a total turn off. It used to be tatoo's were "body art" but its gotten to the point where its just the trendy thing to do. And the fact that someone would permantly scar their body to be stylish suggests to me that they're lacking in the mental department.

well, when I was at NEST I remember most guys getting all excited at "I got the tattoed foot!"

I say no to tattoos. They can never be sexy and if a girl looks sexy with a tattoo then it is because she's a sexy girl. Tattoos almost always detract from beauty. The only place where I think a tattoo can possible look nice and appropriate is having a nice wide tattoo of an abstract and symmetrical shape on the lower back or an abstract ring around the navel.

What Ms. {E} said. That actually sounds pretty hot. In general I'm not a tattoo fan but something small and sexy near the ankle ,shoulder or lower back can be nice. Big tattoos or tons of them are kind of a turn-off for me.

I've had a go at you for lots of things, but that one wasn't me.

Nice to see you. Personally, and this is only personally, but I think a little tattoo on the ankle would be incredibly ugly. Remember, from a distance (and not necessarily a very considerable distance) that tattoo will just look like a scab, scar or skin lesion. Even close up it might look horrible.

But I'm sure it would look lovely on you! (but don't get one! get a large symmetrical abstract design on your lower back instead and wear low hanging jeans and a high-riding shirt that barely exposes the beautiful design.

What sort of design? Hmmm. In my opinion it has to be symmetrical. So whatever you do to one side of the body must be recreated on the other side. A ring around the navel can be a single, uninterupted and continuous symmetrical design, as could a tattoo across the lower back. But a tattoo on the ankle would have to be mirrored by one on the other ankle, and that would just look silly. Similarly and tattoo on the skin around the abdomen that is slightly off centre looks silly and unnatural. Nature tends not to give rise to isolated unsymmetrical marks on the body (externally and on show) and those things that are found in ones (i.e. nose, navel, penis etc.) are centred around the middle axis of the body to keep things looking nice. Hence an isolated tattoo on the shoulder also looks unnatural and silly and i find ugly.

I can't describe the abstract design i'm thinking of very well. I guess that's why its abstract. But i think its important that the design is not of any particular thing or form.

I think colouring is important. Yellows look very bad and so can any bright colours. Blue also tends to look a bit silly. Green can be a nice colour. A green abstract pattern outlined in black at the lower part of the back looks beautiful. It depends on your skin type, hair type, part of the body you're having it done and many other things.

But one must always remember that a tattoo that looks good in the prime of youth, might look horrible on elderly skin, and of course fashion to tend to change frequently and unpredictably.

These are my ramblings on the subject.

Oh, and I find that tattoos on the feet look really horrible indeed. Up close they look wonderful, but from any distance they look unnatural and make a foot appear (at a casual glance) to be diseased or injured.

I suppose I can think of one situation where an isolated tattoo that is not symmetrically mirrored on the body can look nice, and that is where the tattoo is meant to act as a permanent piece of jewelry, such as a toe ting or finger ring, where that item is normally worn in that way. Although these must be carefully done.

What do I know? Maybe nothing. But these are my opinions. I sometimes cannot see when I am being condescending, rude or offensive, but having checked and re-checked this post I cannot see anything that should cause the moderators trouble.

To all of those people with tattoos that I claim to be unnatural and ugly, I am sure that you manage to pull them off with elegance and sophistication that I cannot even imagine.

oo those ramblings lol i answered your pm before reading your latest rambling. and i agree with you except for the ankle i dont see why you would need a matching set on the other one. however thats just me. thanks for the ideas, if and when i ever decide to get one (over hubbys dead body) i will keep that in mind.
