Teen Titans- Starfire (barefoot)

I started watching Teen Titans about a month ago, and I had never seen it before or heard of it. From what I gather it is based on the original DC comic of the same name. The style is unique yet simplistic, and is a brave mix of anime-style artwork with western comic-style themes and plots. While some fans of the original comic book series say this tv series is an injustice to the original comic in that the character designs are too simplified, child-like, and goofy, I still find the new Teen Titans to be rather interesting.

I particularly like Raven and Starfire; their designs, their voice actresses, and their personalities. So you can look forward to more Teen Titans artwork in the future.

Like most of my pictures, this is my first time drawing this character, Starfire, but more important it is my first time ever CGing a picture of mine. Technically its my second, but the first I never finished. Now, Starfire was a request, but I wanted to draw (and CG) her at least once before I get to drawing the request itself.

Anywho, all things considered, I think it turned out rather well.

Yeah, I felt the description/explaination of the picture was important when combined with her dialogue, since it makes more sense, not to mention it makes her more cute. In the series theres still a lot of things Starfire is trying to learn to fit in, and that can sometimes make her seem ditsy or stupid, but thats far from the truth.

I think her ignorance works for her in this picture. 😀

@ HDS- I said on the TMF, but you probably haven't seen that yet. Actually, this was done with Paintshop Pro 7. I've had the program for years but never really used it until yesterday! LOL

Its never too late to start you know. Just choose a medium you particularly like (in my case japanese animation/manga), and get to practicing with the basics of art. Eventually you will have no need for them.

For example, alot of books tell you to draw shapes like circles, rectangles, and the like. This is to make the frame and shape of the body so you can shape it later. But as you get better you can skip that entirely. I for example don't do that. I start by drawing the eyes, then the eyebrows and nose, then the face, etc. I know where everything goes without having to flesh it out first. Eventually there is no need to follow things by the book as there are no real 'rules' to begin with.

Just use basic art as a stepping stone until you can draw on your own. Art is only as difficult as you make it out to be. People tend to give up before they even really try. They let their impatience and frustration work against them rather then turning it around and making something positive out of it. What may be an abstract stick figure today may be a masterpiece tomorrow. Not literally, but you know what I mean. 😛

No I have not. I only started watching the series about a month ago. So I have no way of knowing how much I've missed or how far into the series I am. I usually watch for new episodes which air on fridays. So far, where I am now, Tara is back. I don't know anything about her save that she wanted to be a Titan in the past but she had a falling out with the Titans. She's back and is now an honorary member.

If I ever see the episodes you speak of though, that would be cute. It also might inspire an idea for a future picture for me. 🙂

As with anything (unless it a comission or its on the priority or to do list) I cannot give you a definite answer.

I always finish what I start however, so I don't see why I wouldn't get to those ideas eventually. I did say I wanted to draw Raven a long time ago, and someone (forgot who) was kind enough to give me some reference pictures (which I still have).

Raven I will definitely draw sometime. I'll draw more of Starfire if enough people seem into the idea and say so.

@ Tubby- I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

@ Bignorm- Yeah, thanks for reminding me. You may have noticed I've been gone for a while. That was due to my having switched from my wireless dial-up connection to a DSL connection. I was without service however until the installlation kit was sent to me and the service ready date had arrived. I would have been back on thursday, but it turns out the modem was defective, so they sent me a new one, but because it was the weekend, the replacement didn't get here until today.

Its all good though. Just the fact that I have DSL now makes it worth it. The previous service I had was nice and all, and it was/is a nice company with fair prices, but they didn't have a DSL plan, only the wireless internet card. They're more of a phone company, T-Mobile is, than an internet service provider.

Anyways, yes, I've already drawn two pictures, one of Raven and one of Starfire. While they are non-tickle I think they're pretty decent. Its always nice to draw characters just for the fun of it, for no specific reason. The pictures you mention however, and the requests made since then by others are already in the works.

Its really just a matter of me focusing and committing to the project. I may have a surprise in store in replace of, or in addition to the requests. I'll have to actually rough draft this however, and see how it goes.
