So as the title says, I'm debating on asking someone to hold onto my external hard drive which is full of tickling and foot fetish videos and pics that I've collected over the years. (Probably back to circa 2002)

I've come to terms that I probably have an unhealthy addiction to fetish "porn". It's affected my natural sex drive and lead me into some compulsive behaviors that I need to stop. The problem is that throwing away my hard drive of files almost feels like I'm giving up a pet or something that I love and can no longer take care of. I would like to stipulate that if my progress breaks or I feel the need to get the drive back, id like to have access to it again.

I know it sounds crazy to some but that's just me being honest. I hope I don't get too beat up in the comments

This does sound like something that it might be a good idea to discuss with a therapist, before you make any commitments.

If, on the other hand, you're certain it's the path you want, then you have to do what's right for you.

That may well be the most practical solution if you want to go ahead. If you don't want to bother with a safe deposit box, you could just buy a small lockbox with a key and give that key to a friend for safekeeping, then just put the box in a closet.

Its great you've come to terms with accepting this! I've been a similar boat with my hyper-sexuality because of my emotional needs not always being met as a kid. While I have been making an effort to overcome it, I've recently been struggling to do so because I've been turning to AI porn and internet addiction as unhealthy coping mechanisms for my recent knee pain. Now that the pain isn't as bad, and I'm seeing how those coping mechanisms is having a negative effect on me, I'm now willing to get my life back on track.

If its truly (I feel this is often too lightly used and in guilt-tripping ways) an addiction for you, cut it out entirely. Dont keep it (under someone elses authority) just get rid of it. If it is doing bad for you then why would someone who cared want to give it back to you? If you are a alcoholic you dont have someone to save your alcohol for you, you throw it away, and try to have the strength not to touch it again and avoid being around it.

That's why I'd advise talking to a therapist. Sex can be an addiction, but you can't cut off your sexuality completely. And purging an entire collection is something someone might regret later.

Like @U.N.Owen suggested, I strongly encourage you to talk with a therapist about it. Just remember that not all therapists are created equal, not all operate under the same approach, and not all have the same skillset. If one doesn't work out, you can always try another. You seem to have enough self-awareness and motivation to get this addressed, so if you want to try without the therapist first, the lockbox or safety deposit box are great ways to see how far you get on your own. But be realistic with it and if you find yourself unable to adhere to the plan, please consider professional help. I admire and respect your honesty and willingness to put this out there.
