There were many atrocities committed during WWII, as there are in any war. One of them began on this day 69 years ago when General Johnathan Wainwright surrendered the forces under his command in the Philippines to the Japanese. Wainwright survived years in Japanese P.O.W. camps and was standing on the deck of the USS Missouri when the articles of surrender were signed September 2, 1945.
