In this thread, share with us books you are currently reading or have read in the past. It need not have been published recently, and can be fiction or non fiction. If you want to include a brief book review, feel free to do so.

I recently picked up a copy of The Federalist, written by J. R. Pole. I've not had a chance to really dig into it, but it looks interesting. 🙂

 Nice thread Bugman! :bounce: Hope some more people will participate in it!

I'll contribute with a favorite from one of my favorite authors, who though he has gone south as of recent, still has a place in my heart. 😀

Survivor- Chuck Palahniuk

This thread is a great idea.

I'm going to name Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood. It's an incredibly well told story about a dystopian future which seems unsettlingly close to the world we already live in.

OOooooOOOOOooooo read the first 4 pages on Amazon. *adds to cart* Nice one LD! 😀 Considering I love books on this topic, let alone movies (favorite film is Blade Runner), I have the feeling I will really really like this.

You won't regret it.

i got this in a "get a book half price when you spend more than ten quid" offer in waterstones having never heard of it - and it is an absolute gem

careful where you read it, it will make you laugh out loud and also make you cry... so don't read it on a crowded train

Thanks, I hope so too. 🙂 And thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

This is an old one, I found it in the local library one summer when I was off work for an extended period recovering from surgery.

Shot Through the Heart, by Mikal Gilmore.

It's an account of the early life of Gary Gilmore by his younger brother. Gilmore's family was a real train wreck, and Mikal seems to be the only one who escaped with his sanity intact.

I'm re-reading Barney's Version by Mordecai Richler. I go back to this one a lot. Also re-reading Margaret Atwood's Lady Oracle. Pure, perfect genius.

The title alone intrigues me. 🙂

Great thread!

I'm currently focusing on reading the works of five fiction authors, in no particular order:
Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Brian Lumley.

Ya can't go wrong with any of the above listed...IMHO.

Current recommendations:

Just finished The House of Thunder, by Dean Koontz earlier today. It's a very entertaining read...and different, to say the least. I definitely didn't expect it to be as good as it was!

Finished Along Came A Spider, by James Patterson two Thursday's ago...the first book in the Alex Cross series. I thought it was awesome, and I highly recommend it!

Just started Kiss the Girls by Patterson today; Book 2 in the Alex Cross series! So far, it's equally as awesome, and as eerie as the first!

I just finished a book called "The Doomsday Key" by James Rollins. I have read nearly all of his books and so far he has never let me down when it comes to capturing my attention. 😀

For science fiction fans, the original Foundation trilogy by the late Isaac Asimov is great.
Foundation
Foundation and Empire
Second Foundation

I don't read science fiction anymore but when I was a kid I read 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke. If you have seen the movie but never read the book, look it up. I read my paperback copy over and over until it fell apart. 🙂

To Kill A Mockingbird.....Harper Lee

That's a classic, and she is still with us. She worked on the research along with her friend Truman Capote which would result in the book In Cold Blood and later the film about the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas.

Lee said of the 1962 Academy Award–winning screenplay adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird by Horton Foote: "I think it is one of the best translations of a book to film ever made". She also became a friend of Gregory Peck, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch, the father of the novel's narrator, Scout. She remains close to the actor's family. Peck's grandson, Harper Peck Voll, is named after her.

As an aside, she is a direct descendant of Robert E. Lee. Sorry, I just had to slip that in. 😉
