The debate over the Confederate Flag is not by any means, a new debate.
I support the Confederate Flag. Not because it is a symbol of racism, (although some will claim that), but I respect it as a symbol of Southern heritage.
There are some who will say that the Confederate Flag
only represents slavery, oppression, and injustice.
If people really want to shred the Confederate Flag, because they feel it represents racism, then to be fair, the same argument should be made about the US Flag (including the legendary flag designed by Betsy Ross).
Slavery was not just a "southern invention" regardless what you may hear from all the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharpetons of the world.
There were slaves that were brought to Colonial America, 100 years before there WAS an America.
Even when America claimed its independance, slavery and slave trade continued to florish **GASP**
In fact, until 1861, it was legal for all States, even those in the Union to own slavesx **GASP**
So regardless what the Jesse Jackons and Al Sharpetons of the world continue to foam at the mouth about, Slavery was not just a "Confederate Thing"
So if you feel the Confederate Flag should be "shredded" because it "is a symbol of rasicm", then why not say the same about the US Flag?
After all, slavery was a thriving industry, under the US Flag, until 1861. In fact President Lincoln said "If I could save the Union by freeing all slaves, I would. If I could save the Union by not freeing a single slave, I would also".
Also in the 1950s the "Jim Crow" laws regarding forced segergation (called "seperate but equal") were signed. Under these laws, blacks were 2cd class citizens, could only eat at the "black only" cafes and were forced to live in sub-standard housing.
Those laws were signed, with the blessing of the US Government and were signed under the US Flag **GASP**
So despite what Jesse Jackon, Al Sharpetons and the other hypocrites of the world continue to scream about at the top of their lungs, slavery was in no way, shape, or form a "southern thing". It was even a common pratice among warring African tribes, where the defeated were taken as slaves of the victors, and were either sold or were used for their own personal use.
So if you want to see the Confederate Flag "shredded" because it is a "symobl of racism", then the same should be said for the US Flag.
Unless you are a hypocrite.
