The Dangers of Upgrading

Last year, a friend of mine installed an upgrade from GIRLFRIEND 3.0 to WIFE 1.0 . His experience with that was awful! This application uses up an extreme amount of RAM and leaves almost no other system resources. After a little testing, he found out that this application opens additional “Child“ ports. This naturally results in a further reduction of the already sparse resources. Furthermore, this application is programmed very close to the operating system. It starts up automatically with every booting and afflicts the command structure, thus controls all resources directly. This goes so far that you need to request all other applications with the system, only to find out that there are no more resources available. Some of the previous applications can't be operated anymore after the upgrade, for example POKER 7.1 , XTREME_DRINKING 3.4 , and BARCRUISE 5.0 .

And it seems that the whole system suffers from that upgrade. It looks as if WIFE 1.0 spreads like a virus in the system. Protocols of all actions with other processes are stored. Other experienced users of the upgrade version had warned my friend before, but as none of these phenomenons were mentioned in the manual or tutorial, he simply ignored those warnings! Another glitch of this application is that it doesn't offer any options during the installation. For example, you can't choose whether or not to install additional programs like MOTHERINLAW 1.0 or BROTHERINLAW 1.2 along with the upgrade.

Some important features were simply forgotten in the programming, like an uninstaller, a miminize button, or a support for multi-tasking which would give other programs a chance to communicate with the system.

Personally, I think I'll stick to GIRLFRIEND 5.0 , despite its complications. For example, none of the versions could be simply installed over its predecessor. It was necessary to run a complete, clean de-installation of the previous version to avoid interrupts or I/O port blockings. If you forget this, it can happen that the freshly installed new version just crashes. In this case, you usually have to get a completely new copy. Don't rely too much on the in-built uninstall routines; generally some the bits and pieces just remain in the system.

Another problem of most GIRLFRIEND versions are the repetitive pop-up prompts to get an upgrade to WIFE 1.0 . As usual with shareware programs, these pop-ups show up in regular time intervals, particularly at the most unsuitable moments.

So I've worked out a few suggestions to solve the problems:

*After installation of GIRLFRIEND 3.0 , delete all entries in GIRLFRIEND.INI which start with “I want...”.
*Afterwards, change the application area from “GLOBAL” to “LOCAL”.
*Within the local application area, install time-consuming processes like dishwashing, cleaning and such. Use only older versions of those, they are slow and need a lot of capacity.
*Or the best solution: Install the virus scanner “HANDCUFF.BYE”. It notices every trace of WIFE 1.0 immediately at the booting and deletes at once all its inital programs.

Other solution. When girlfr.03.live offers upgrade to wif.01.live, download program to uninstall girlfr.03.live.

But for right now. Buy new computer, soundproof study and spend endless hours getting aquainted with new features until wif.01 experiences feeling of redundancy, but also of being the only program that works and offers upgrade to wif.01.ex
