let's see if i can get a discussion about America's favorite sports soap opera, the Los Angeles Lakers. since their sound defeat by the Detroit Pistons, this wonderful organization just refuses to die in the news. Phil Jackson is gone, Shaq wants to be traded, Kobe hasnt decided what he wants to do, and the coaching search continues. to be a Laker fan is to be a fan of drama. here are some "fond" events that are occuring as we speak.
1) Phil Jackson is gone. to me, i liked Phil Jackson. yeah, he may be perceived as arrogant, but hey, you win 9 championships, you get cocky. his offensive scheme is strange, as the Lakers never truly ran the triangle offense. but, his aura made them listen (for the most part) and his confidence was amazing. i am gonna miss him. he was the perfect therapist for this bunch of players.
2) Shaq demands to be traded. now, here is my heartfelt opinion. TRADE SHAQ'S BIG, FAT LAZY ASS if he wants to be traded. that big lazy fool claims he is leaving because the Lakers dont believe in team anymore. so WHY is he leaving? because the team is focusing on Kobe Bryant that's why! remember, if he believes in "team", can anyone tell me which Laker always demanded the ball in the media? can anyone tell me who always says "you need to feed the big dog!"? can anyone tell me who said "he passed me the ball. i have guys who i have been teammates with for five years who dont give me the ball."? yep, you guess it! Shaq! as much as i actually do like the guy, his attitude has pissed me off. ever since he won the championship in 2000 and 2001, he hasnt shown up in shape yet for the start of the season. he doesnt make free throws even though he says "i make them when they count." NO YOU DONT!!!! why kid us? plus, even Phil Jackson made snide remarks in the media about his lack of dedication. Shaq has gotten fat and lazy. so, if he wants to go, dont let the door hit him on the way out. for his fat contract, the Lakers can actually pick up several players who are athletic and quick. we just need to find a decent front court player, plus some athletic guys and the Lakers will return to the "Showtime" era of running and gunning. besides, even when Shaq shows up to play against the Lakers, all we have to do is foul him. he will not make them anyway.
the funny thing is, Shaq has no say so in his contract to demand where he goes. there is several different teams i would trade his lazy ass to. if he goes to the Clippers, i would take Corey Maggette and Elton Brand. if he went to the Sacramento Queens, i want Brad Miller, Chris Webber AND Mike Bibby. we could trade him to New Jersey for Kenyon Martin, Richard Jefferson and maybe Jason Collins. the Dallas Mavericks dont have anyone we want or need. sorry Mark Cuban. now, we could trade him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Yao Ming and whoever else. bottom line, the Lakers cant really rebuild with Shaq's fat contract and his declining skills.
3) Kobe Bryant hasnt decided if he will resign with the Lakers. now, i am a big Kobe fan. there is truly something special with him and the Lakers need to keep him at all costs. it appears they are doing that. now, if Kobe doesnt resign with the Lakers after all they did him, i will despise Kobe FOREVER. he would truly turn his back on an organization that supported him 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 percent. granted, he does have an ego, but not once have i ever heard him say in the media that he NEEDS the ball, unlike Shaq. Kobe has said the right things, even if he meant them or not. the criticsm of this young man is incredible. i think it has to do with the fact that he is the closest thing to Jordan and NO ONE outside of LA wants to see him do well. why? because the Lakers will still rule the NBA and the country hates the Lakers. if Kobe played for another team, he wouldnt get the type of criticism he receives now. they say he doesnt pass the ball. if that was true, why does he lead the Lakers in assists? he was criticized for "throwing" a game. yeah, right!!! Kobe Bryant has too much self pride and respect for the game to do that. Kobe Bryant is a hard working athlete who is trying to be the best ever. i hope that Kobe stays as a Los Angeles Laker!
now, for his legal trouble. the Lakers are taking a big risk. even though the evidence is pointing to the girl being a complete liar, you never know what will happen. for the Lakers sake, not only does Kobe has to be re-signed, but he needs to be acquitted as well.
4) what do the Lakers do? first they need to hire a coach. today, Coach K from Duke turned down the Lakers. good. Laker fans werent too thrilled with him possibly becoming the Laker coach anyway. they need to hire Tomjanovich. he has two NBA titles and his teams were always known as hard workers and a "never say die" attitude. that's what the Lakers need. a "never say die" attitude.
now, if i was the Laker owner, BELIEVE ME, a lot of crap that happened wouldnt have happened. i would have sat down Phil, Shaq and Kobe and have their air their grievances without any agents, family, lawyers, entourage, or ANYONE ELSE, around. just us four guys. i would have told them i am tired of hearing this "this is Shaq's team" or this is "Kobe's team", i would have told them, this is MY team. shut up, go play basketball and act your age. everyone knows that as long as Shaq and Kobe are together, the Lakers are hard to beat. but, i am not the owner, so we must move on.
so, goodbye Shaq, please stay Kobe and hopefully the Lakers will still be a contender. i am a Laker fan. always have been, always will be. i am loyal to the organization, not the players. so, over the next few weeks, expect to hear Laker news all over the media. why? we truly are "America's team", even if it means we are the most hated. this post was a chance to get my frustrations out. anyone else have an opinion?
