Recently, Hiram posted something that led me to believe what he was describing was the female "giggle fit"...

We females tend to get them for the darndest reasons...sometimes I can be lying asleep beside my husband at night and suddenly wake up and somewhere in my groggy cranium I recall something that happened years ago, or yesterday or that evening, and it is so funny my body wants to just crack up then and there. Usually, I try and muffle it in the pillow, but inevitably, my hubby (who can hear a Kleenex ruffle in the room!) wakes up...and there is just something funny about seeing the profile of his head lift off the pillow just so in the dark as he begins to realize what's going on...

In the early days of our marriage, I'd try and stifle the giggling and he'd just try and sleep through it, but the bed bounced so much, that now days he just sits up on his side and says, "Ah! I see you're having a giggle-fit. Come on...let it out..."...and now will even indulge in making it worse by tickling me!

When at dinner one night with some other couples, and the guys were swapping stories about the things they had least expected in a marriage, "giggle fits" were at the top of the list....

Likewise, for us females, the expression on our husband's faces of puzzlement, amusement or worse-when they decided to really ham it up and send us an over-the-top-exaggerated-dumbfounded look, will just send the giggle-fit to new heights...

Don't know why we females are wired this way...but I can admit to it being part of the wiring from childhood, as there were many a slumber party that were interspersed with mass-giggle fits for no really good reason...

Guess its just something we females don't outgrow? :blush :blush :blush

But the only thing that seems to work to stop it, (other than letting it run tis course), is for the female to be tickled. My hubby finds this "speeds up" the process by wearing me out faster.

Sooo...here's my question to the other females on here...

Do you get unexpected giggle-fits, and if you do, does your partner find tickling seems to hurry the process along?

I get gigglefits myself.

I'm easily amused and love good comedy. Sometimes something funny will remain in my head for a while, and I'll continue to try gasp for air as it perpetually tickles my funny bone. xp

Yes, I have had these sometimes before! Especially if I am in a good mood. Hehehe... I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who does this. I bet you would really start laughing when being tickled during a giggling fit! I know I would!

I don't think this is a girl thing. I think it's a people thing. I know a lot of people that will suddenly laugh uncontrollably about something they remember or something they are thinking about. Sometimes they just happen in the moment for no explainable reason. It's like a natural reaction. I've had quite a few on these. I tend to get them a lot when a girl lays on me in some manner. I think it's a reaction to not wanting to laugh in the situation that makes it so hard to stop. You know how rediculous it is that you're laughing so you laugh at the fact that it's even happening.

Yep, I do have giggle-fits as well. And my fiancé is notorious for 'em, though I don't tickle her when she's having one - she gets very physical, a bit angry, and it tends to hurt her lungs more than the usual. Still, that doesn't stop me from "fueling the giggle-flame" verbally, until she's starting to hurt anyway. 😉

Yeah I'd just echo most everyone else's sentiments, don't think this is a girls only thing. I know quite a few guy friends who have worse fits of laughter than me, usually about the most ridiculous things.

Personally for me though, when I get like that it's usually due to the embarrassment of laughing at something that really isn't that funny at all. So usually I am laughing at myself or someone else's reaction to my own

Oh, it's definitely not a girl's only thing. Between me and Jamie, he's the one more prone to random fits of giggling. But then, I've noticed a bizarre fixation with imagined differences in the sexes from the OP. :huh

i do agree both sexes have these giggle fits, i haven't had one that i can remember, but again i don't get much action so i wouldn't know lol.

I really think it depends on the person's personality.

If any of you are searching for a possible cause for a "giggle fit", I found the first watching of this part of Danny Bhoy to send me into fits.

The stupidest things send me into silent laughter. And I'm not one inclined to do more than smirk.

Oh, so you're one of THOSE devious types who enjoys keeping them going.....:lol Personally, I think that's simply awesome!😉
