Ross and Vic had reached the point where thirteen men were left to choose from for the new title of "RossShell President"
One interview would be held, per man, per day, for about two hours, with both Ross and Vic.
After that, another six or seven would be dropped.
The following week, another interview would be held with one man a day, the second interview.
Finally, it would come down to two finalists, and then :"The Man:" would be chosen.
Ross knew that due to the time frame, he would likely have to make a three day OKC trip and then return and choose.
Kayley for her part, was silent, and did not want to complicate matters for her husband.
The interviews were difficult, and sometimes grueling.
The men which Ross and Vic were choosing from were "The cream of the crop"
All of the candidates were executive VPs and or Presidents, of other marketing and PR companies, with at least ten, and mostly twenty years experience.
The average candidate was not far from Ross's age, about fifty.
The RossShell office kept running, but was basically silent. Ross signed papers, did only what he had to, and just focused on this.
For himself, for Kayley, and for RossShell.
Ross knew that as the weeks went on, he would be obligated to make an OKC trip.
The first and second weeks of interviews were held, after which six men were dropped, and one held over.
The "pool " was down to seven.
During the second week, four out of five men were dropped, The group was down to three.
Ross and Vic went to the office on a Monday, and interviewed and dropped one more man.
After which, while Ross "Wanted to finish the project" a mandate of a call came on conference call from both Fritz and Steve in OKC.
"Good Sir, we have been very patient. We know what you must do at RossShell, and that if you did not have this to do, you likely would have been down here last week. Now, we request, strongly, that your presence is "required" by Wednesday at the latest. Please go home and explain to the Principal that this is so. You will be back on Friday night and or Saturday morning, and on Monday and Tuesday, go, do your business, and you can stay up there for a month" Steve and Fritz said, honestly, but strongly.
"Yes, Gentlemen, I will be down there Wednesday by noon for as long as you need me. If the Principal needs to lose me for part of the weekend, that is her issue. I believe that she has a Monday holiday next week anyway, so I can not come in here on Monday, and finish this on Tuesday" Ross said.
Ross went home on that Monday night. "Principal, I must, must, must go to OKC. I cannot delay or stall any longer. You know how I have put my nose to the grindstone, committed to this, and that the process is almost finished. I will spend the Monday holiday with you, and by next Wednesday night, RossShell will have it's President, okay?" Ross said.
Kayley kissed Ross. "Yes, sir. Let's go out to Italian, and then, when we come home, we will have a nice evening.
Ross and Kayley had Italian food in Queens. When they got home., Kayley whipped off her shoes, stuck her bare feet in Ross's lap, which he whiffed, and attacked, as her toes flexed back hard!
"That!" is for making me go through this process. Besides torturing you with "This" You will have to wait another week for me to decide on the man. " Ross taunted.
The reality was, that Ross did have to go to OKC as Fritz and Steve said, but he also needed a mental break from interviewing the candidates, to clear his head, before making "The Decision"
Ross had a quiet Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Ross arose early, for his 9 am flight to OKC and DFW.
In all honesty, while Ross needed to go to OKC, Ross did need a break before making such a major decision for the company he owned, loved, and cherished for almost as long as Kayley and Ross had known each other.
OKC usual business was coming.
When Ross got home, would he be able to just finish the process, or would some "unexpected issue arise" to delay it?
That would be seen.
