61 years ago yesterday, the Korean War began when the armed forces of North Korea, later joined full force by the Chinese Red Army, invade South Korea. By the time an armistice is signed July 27 1953, over 35,000 American service men and women have died as a result of combat, along with millions of civilians killed or wounded on both sides. Korea also marks the end of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur's long military career, when President Truman removes him from command of American forces.

Not forgotten by me. My Father served in this conflict and never told us what he did or went through in these years. I have only heard a few things from strangers at his funeral who turned out to be the last of his squad. I also found out it was one of these Vets who contacted the Marine Corps and the Corps sent his medals, saber and scabbard, and a full honor guard to the gravesite surprising us all when we arrived for the burial. It was after the burial I found out that he had a spot in Arlington if he wanted it, but he would rather be buried at home was his answer.

No, I won't forget nor will my Kid or her kids if I am still around.
