Francis Albert "Frank" Sinatra, (December 12, 1915 – May 14, 1998.). His personal life could be considered less then exemplary, but the man could sing. And he had acting talent too. The Man With the Golden Arm is largely forgotten today, but I consider it a classic.

I grew up listening to Frank and others of that era on my little am radio on the nightstand next to my bed. Good times. 🙂

Forgotten by whom? I still see it referred to as something of a classic from time to time.

Ask almost anyone under 50 years old, and chances are they never heard of it. Unless they are are an old movie fan. AMC and TCM show, for the most part b-grade movies at best. 🙁

I've recently started getting into Frank Sinatra, and I'm loving him! This is my fav.

My parents were both Sinatra junkies and I didn't start to appreciate him until I hit my 30...I'm now 53. I always thought Dean Martin was a better singer and better looking guy than Sinatra,BUT, Frank was the cooooolest and he had something none of them had before him. ATTITUDE! He will live on forever.

In The Wee Small Hours is still one of the best songs Frank ever recorded IMO. I am in my early 40's and have been listening to Sinatra since my college days.

Yes, Frank brooked no nonsense, nor did he suffer fools gladly. 🙂

Let's have a listen. 🙂

There's the line in Casablanca where Bogart mentioned standing in the doorway of the train car, with a funny look on his face like someone kicked his guts out. Frank Sinatra interpreted that emotion through his songs. Nobody was ever able to capture that moment of hurt like he could. It's there, in 'Angel Eyes'.

To me, when I was a teenager, he was just some old fart who stayed around at the rodeo way too long. I didn't appreciate him until I got into my thirties. A true giant.

Frank's signature song, New York, New York.

My father's favorite movie was another of his classics, From Here to Eternity.

One of the reason I got XM Raido was to get the Sinatra station "Frank's Place." Ok it was #11 on my presets but every now and then I would find myself putting it on went I needed to mellow out while on the road. Now that they merged with Serious they got rid of his station and added their playlist to the American standards station. It's just not the same for me so I took it off my presets.

One of the best movies ever. End of discussion. From Wiki.

From Here to Eternity is a 1953 drama directed by Fred Zinnemann and based on the novel of the same name by James Jones. It deals with the troubles of four soldiers, played by Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Frank Sinatra and Ernest Borgnine stationed on Hawaii in the months leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed portrayed the women in their lives.

The film won eight Academy Awards out of 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Fred Zinnemann), Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Sinatra) and Best Supporting Actress (Reed).
