The French Are At It Again!!!!............

.....as usual, with all E.U. matters there is one rule for the French and a different one for the rest of us. This time its the "European Union growth and stability aggreement" which states that any country that breaches the parameters of the agreement will be heavily fined. The French have now broken this agreement for the third year running but look set to avoid any punishment by throwing their weight around in the E.U. parliament.


During the U.K. B.S.E. crisis the French showed no mercy what ever, and enforced E.U. law to the letter, and way beyond, by using the opportunity to destroy their biggest competitor in the beef market.

Thats how the French go about things, and then they wonder why no one likes them!!

.....why not go the whole hog and become the 51st state? then I could invent a new game like er...?.....let me see.......lamp shade throwing, I could invite a few guys round for a beer throw some lamp shades round in the back garden, form a league, lets call it the "National Federation of Lampshaders" (NFL for short) I could win the "tournament" and then call myself "THE WORLD CHAMPION" .....and lets face it that would only be fair because no one else in the world plays "lampshading"......that would make sense surely?...or would i have to become an American first to see the logic of that argument?

Which may be doubted seriously. How much do you know about French humanitarian aid, about development expenses (especially in Africa, a 'forgotten continent' for self-centered America)? What do you know about French cultural contributions? Not too much, if you're honest, Dave.

PS: red indian, which do you consider more important: a life-threatening disease like BSE, or an administrative act about the Euro? So much about perspectives for "mercy"... 🙄

....how are you me old china? just a couple of points regarding your post. I think BOTH issues are very important, but in quite clearly different ways. Yes the BSE issue was a serious health issue, but the French also saw a heaven sent opportunity to bugger the entire British beef industry and they took it. Even though the experts repeatedly told them we were BSE free and that we had taken ALL the prescribed measures they STILL refused to allow our beef back in to their markets.

The French failure to stay with in the parameters of the growth and stability aggreement for the third year in a row is also VERY serious both for the French and the stability of the E.U. as a whole. Not life threatening of course, but potentially highly damaging to the French economy and to the entire economic system of the E.U.

We are not talking about a parking fine, we are talking about billions of euro,s at stake for the french. My point is that the french repeatedly betray themselves with this kind of duplicity, everyone else has to follow E.U. law to the letter (much of it skewed to favour the french anyway) but as soon as the shit hits the fan and falls on THEM, its a different story.

Then we start getting all this crap about them being "founder members" and they start bullying the small nations to vote in their favour, and suddenly the E.U. comissioners and the E.U. courts start to find ingenious ways of interpreting E.U. law to get the french out of the shit.

This kind of behaviour can not be allowed to continue if the E.U. is to maintain any credibility in the global financial markets.

So, I think contrary to your view, I have things pretty well in perspective.

One other point Halty, the other nation currently in breech of its growth and stability aggreement parameters is.......GERMANY!!! and who do you think dreamt up the whole scheme, along with its crippling financial penalties?...er.....yes.....GERMANY!!!
