42 years ago today much of NYC was plunged into darkness. I remember watching the news coverage of the chaos that followed. Anyone who lived there at the time care to share your experience? Or maybe you had family or friends living there then?

I was .. 7. I remember it.

We were living in Manhattan at the time.

I remember being in our apartment with my mom, and the whole city went dark.

My father was on a business trip. He said his plane was diverted from JFK to Newark, and he had to walk up 21 floors to the apartment.

The next day my parents and I walked down the 21 flights, and went to a hotel in NJ for 24 hours, until the power outage was over.

Funny what people remember from their childhood.

I was still living in Illinois then, teaching at Northwestern University, and didn't move back to NYC until August 1978. Not sorry that I missed it. 😛
