Happy 30th Anniversary!! September 15,1975
Unsurpassed by anything before and after!!! (My Opinion!)

Best album ever is alway debateable (sp?), though this is a great one. Certainly my favorite Pink Floyd album.

o its pink flloyd yuck. thanks unit

isabeau 🙂

Pink Floyd album title was "Wish You Were Here".
I actually put on the CD on when I saw the post...thanks Socksoff!

One of my very favorite albums is from around this time period, actually late 1974...Jethro Tull's "War Child". This album was widely disliked, but I've always been a little different from everyone else 🙂. Everybody thought Tull's Aqualung album was so great but I never liked it, in fact in college I gave it away to some guy for a couple of beers!

Oh HELL yes! I used to be a Tull fanatic! I even loved Passion Play and Thick As A Brick!

Another die-hard Tull freak here! "Warchild" has recently been reissued on cd with 7 or 8 bonus tracks, including "Rainbow Blues" and "Glory Road" from the best of records. In the last year, I found a mint condition copy of the original "Living in the Past" with the book included.

As for Pink Floyd, another great band. I'm more a fan of their earlier music("Piper at the Gates of Dawn", "Saucerful of Secrets"), but "Wish You Were Here" and "Animals" are also excellent.

As an avid Pink Floyd fan, I personally found "Wish You Were Here" excellent, although it ranked among my least favorite of the lot. I lean more towards "Animals" and "Dark Side Of The Moon." WYWH had an awesome cover though, with the two businessmen shaking hands, one of them on fire.

jethro tulll now you are talking, and the animals also. andd fyi i can play like tull on my flute, if i care to spit in it

But can you do it standing on one foot?

I never heard a Jethro Tull album I didn't love until
Too Old To Rock and Roll, Too Young To Die. Maybe I should give that one another spin now that I'm (COUGH!) years older and my tastes have matured somewhat.

Pink Floyd is magnificent, of course, and absolutely unique.

You mean you can play like Ian Anderson on your flute?

I would add to the greatest list:

Miles Davis -"Kind of Blue"
John Lee Hooker -"I'm John Lee Hooker"
John Mayall -"The Turning Point"
Johnny Cash- "Live at Folsom Prison" and "Live at San Quentin"
Jimmy Smith- "The Sermon" or "Organ Grinder Swing"

Drew

Big Tull fan here, too. I've always had a soft spot for Broadsword and the Beast, although I'm usually more partial to the older stuff. In one of my old bands, we did a rendition of "Bungle in the Jungle" and I worked out the flute parts on guitar. That was a fun song to play.

Hard to say if I could pick a single "best album". If I were to consider that based on the ENTIRE album, how it fit together and how it impacted me...I could narrow it down to...

Misplaced Childhood - Marillion

2112 - Rush

Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche

Alpha - Asia

Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin

I cannot tell you all how heartwarming it is to hear there are still so many Tull fans out there!!! I have to agree with Ignatz on "Too Old To Rock n' Roll, etc".
"Stormwatch" is an awesome one(one of the best album covers ever, too!). Heck, I even liked 'Minstrel In The Gallery"!

Dave...nice call on Marillion...I forgot about those guys!

A few faves of mine include

The Rolling Stones "Big Hits, Green Grass and High Tides"
...also 'Their Satanic Majesty's Request"
The Beatles "Revolver" and several others
Traffic "John Barleycorn Must Die"
Steely Dan "The Royal Scam"
The Cars (first album)
The Talking Heads "Fear of Music"
The Pixies "Trompe Le Monde"
Lush "Spooky"
Coldplay "A Rush of Blood to the Head"
Radiohead "Hail to the Thief"

Haha, that guy was shaking hands with a guy who was on fire!

No, but really, I have "Wish You Were Here" in the car cause it's one of the few CDs I can listen to in the car without skipping boring tracks.

Have to add 2 of the greatest albums ever recorded to this thread....that I listened to tonight:

"Dixie Chicken" - Little Feat

"Bring the Family" -John Hiatt, I can't begin to describe how phenomenal this record is. Ry Cooder on guitar, Nick Lowe on bass, and fantastic songwriting from John Hiatt. Every one of these tunes should be played on the radio. Actually...one still is...Bonnie Raitt's cover of "A Thing Called Love".

Drew

Nice call on the Steely Dan, Unit 😀 Jethro Tull are definitely worth of mention also, I've seen them three times - awesome!

I'm a huge Floyd fan, but I rank Animals and DSOTM ahead of WYWH personally. Was so awesome to see them all together for Live8 this summer! 😀

Some additions to the list.....

Genesis: Selling England by the Pound AND Foxtrot
Alan Parsons Project: Tales of Mystery and Imagination
The Who: Who's Next
Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath
Cream: Disraeli Gears (How about these guys at MSG in October!! :veryhappy )
Fleetwood Mac: Rumours (sappy I know, but still a great album)
Heart: Heart
Police: Syncronicity (sp?)
