True happiness cannot waver due to wealth or lack of it. If your happiness depends on external things such as money, possessions, and social status then your happiness is false and temporary, wavering due to circumstances. Look at how 'happy' you feel when you buy a brand new CD. You listen to it for a few days or weeks and then, after you tire of it, you go out and seek a new CD that will fill the void and make you 'happy' again. Substitute the words 'car' or 'girlfriend/boyfriend' or 'spouse' for CD and you'll see how our so-called happiness is sometimes controlled by our outer circumstances. If you're genuinely happy then having money or lacking it won't really matter.
