The mysterious disappearance of The Bellybuttonlounge

Dear fellow-ticklers and ticklees. A month ago a fetish MSN Group which I'm sure a few of you are well aquainted with called 'The Bellybuttonlounge' was suddendly DELETED without a reason or any kind of warning whatsoever.

The group which by this stage had well over a thousand members and was a regular 'meeting point' for navel lovers and ticklers worldwide, also contained literally THOUSANDS of images gathered by hundreds of people and spread over dozens of albums which now seemingly have also been completely wiped off the face of the earth!!!

Efforts to contact MSN Groups to find out why it was deleted or indeed WHO deleted it, were met with no reply whatsoever so Sydney Rome, (the group's manager) and myself wanted to know If anyone else among you has lost an MSN group without a trace (or explanation) and what kind of assistance you were given by MSN to retrieve it.

On a final note.. I invite you all to leave MSN Groups, and drop your Hotmail accounts (as we and ALL our coleagues are doing) since it is evident that they have no interest whatsoever in customer service, customer relations or Social Networks in general. The Bellybuttonlounge had been up for 3 years, had garnered a lot of traffic for MSN at OUR expense and if this is what we have to show for our troubles, ie: NOTHING, then I'm going to make it MY business to set the records straight!

Yes, I noticed that too!! I thought it was real peculiar. I also notice that several threads get deleted regularly from other forums. MSN does suck! I much rather use Yahoo Groups!

Even though I never have frequented The BBL, I am saddened to hear the news of it's removal. Not just because of the content, but rather that I first hand know how much work goes into creating/maintaining a site of sorts, and to think all that effort has been lost is stomach wrenching. I remember back in 1997-98 when people would try to have tickling related sites on GeoCities, and once they (Geo) found out OR one single person was offended and complained, the plug was pulled with no exception. You would wake up one morning and poof...all your work was gone. It was especially horrifying for those who used webtv at the time and had no real way to back up the work since webtv really doesn't have much of a hard drive to speak of. It would usually be over pictures that had some nudity in it or stories that could be considered offensive...and that violates some of these places TOS (terms of service) that you agree to when starting one of these sites. Once again, I feel your pain.

My advice now to anyone who wants to have any kind of tickling related site is to simply pay for it and have a computer you can back up your work on. Now you might say "I don't have that kinda cash" but don't fear...it's not as expensive as you may think. Let me give you an example of what I have done to show you how cheap it can be. When I was planning on re-opening HotelTickle (yeah, right daddy, we have heard that for a year now!!!) I found a hosting place called "Grand Central Station" out of NY city. They only charge $8.99 a month for hosting which includes tons of email accounts, perl 5, cgi scripting capability and tons of space. Basically everything you need. Then I had to get my domain name, and that cost me about $12.00 for two years through Go DADDY.com You will also want somekind of message board area so your visitors can interact...you can get one for free that compares very much to this forum. It's called phpBB and can be downloaded at www.phpBB.com
I also wanted a chatroom, so I made a FLASH based chatroom...cost...FREE. So all in all, my total cost to get my space, domain name and some goodies to get started with was around $120.00. That is very cheap...and you have complete control of your content, no popup ads...you ARE the leader! The only drawback of an "affordable" account is bandwidth limitations, so if you plan on hosting video clips or audio clips you would need an account that allows a higher transfer of bytes.

Anyhow, I hope this setback does not discourage you from starting over...just be more cautious and consider the consequences.
