Before I'm assaulted by responses of "this subject's getting old" and "haven't we already discussed this," I wanted to reveal an interesting and/or disturbing thought concerning the War with Iraq Part 2 and its repercussions....
So, Former Sec. of the Treasury O'Neill shows us a 19,000 page report that proves the tax cut idea was aimed at the rich and hints that the plans to attack Iraq were conceived even before 9/11. Well, that second part is of particular interest to me. If, indeed, the War with Iraq had been planned for all this time and the cover story would be that we wanted Saddam to hand over his Weapons of Mass Destruction, an interesting question comes to mind: Did he know that Iraq DIDN'T have WMD? I would surely hope he knew this, because otherwise, the nation of Israel narrowly avoided mass destruction that could have been caused by the weapons we assumed Saddam had. If Bush didn't know if Iraq had WMD or not, entering a war with them would have been awfully negligent. We never had to worry about Iraqi missiles reaching the U.S., but Jerusalem is only about 500 miles from Baghdad. A conventional warhead (not an ICBM) could easily have reached Jerusalem during our war with Iraq.
In effect, if we had blindly entered a war with Iraq without certainty that they had no WMD, then we put Israel in a massive amount of danger. Saddam surely knew that he would lose a war against a military that is easily hundreds of times more powerful than his was, so what does a psycho dictator do when facing ultimate annihilation: Hurt your enemy in the worst way possible. If he did have WMD, Israel would have been toast (or at least, much lower in population). People wonder why we don't have that many international allies these days, and this kind of careless disregard for them is much of the reason why.
On the other hand, if Bush did know that Iraq didn't have any WMD, then Israel was not in any danger, but he lied about Saddam's capabilities. Either way, this doesn't look very favorably toward Bush, but at least with the second explanation, he doesn't look as stupid or negligent. For this reason, I truly and deeply hope that Bush DID know that Saddam did not have any WMD....
