The New York Mets have put the finishing touches on the NL East and are headed back to the playoffs. The Mets defeated the Florida Marlins 4-0. Steve Trachsel picked up the win and Billy Wagner closed the game out as the Mets clinch the East for the first time since 1988. This will be the Mets first playoff appearance since 2000. :rotate: :dogpile: :bouncybou

Congratulations to the Mets, who do have a fine team this year. 😀

I want to extend congratulations to the Mets, and their fans. They had a great season, and deserve this. As a fan of the team that won the NL East the last 11 years, (The Braves of course) I know how thrilling clinching a division title can be, especially after such a long time.

Mitch

cant take all the credit... stole it from Mr Met's bulliten on myspace lol

What was also great about last night is how the fans behaved themselves, and let the players celebrate on the field, while the fans celebrated in the stands. In the division clinchers of 1969 and 1986 at Shea, and in the NL clincher in 1973, also at Shea, the fans tore up the field. A clinching is the players time to celebrate, let them have the field.
I dont know if I've ever mentioned this before, but I was at Game 7 of the 1986 World Series. (I was a Braves fan back then as well, even when they were in last place, but had the opportunity to go with my dad, so I went) Jesse Orosco struck out Marty Barrett for the final out, and the fans stayed in their seats. We were ecstatic, and yes, I was rooting for the Mets to win, but all that happened was a big number "116" flashed up on the board, and everyone just sat in their seats for a while, and cheered. The crowd was VERY well behaved. It looked that way again last night, and, hopefully, if the Mets win any other playoff series this season at home, it can be the same way.

Mitch

I loved the way the fans acted, very classly and well. I just hope they can do it if we win a WS Title

The Mets are clearly the best team in the National League this year. And it was nice to see the New York fans not act like animals during the celebration.

Congratulations to the Met team and their fans. Hopefully you'll be facing my Tigers in the World Series..

Amen to that. Though playing the Tigers would be tough because Sadira is a Tigers fan and I am a Mets fan. Our gathering comes up during game 6 of the World Series. I just hope Sadira and I can survive a World Series with each other.

I'm still hoping to make that gathering. It would be fun to see Detroit facing Pedro that night!

Its great to be a Mets fan right now

It is, but I find it's also difficult for faithful fans because the Mets seem to attract a lot of frontrunning fans when they are going like this.

When the Mets aren't playing well, it's just Yankees, Yankees, Yankees... :ignite:

Game one goes according to the Mets plan. The Dodgers pitchers had no answers for Carlos Delgado, David Wright and Cliff Floyd as they went 7 for 12 with 2 homeruns, 3runs scored and 6 RBI. The Mets ended up beating the Dodgers 6-5 and going up one game to none in the best of five series. Game two tomorrow night at 8:09pm. Kuo vs Glavine is the starting pitching matchup. Mets win!!! :dogpile:

It was a personal joy to me to witness J.D. Drew's illustrious, head's up baserunning in the second, where he got thrown out by LoDuca at the plate after following Jeff Kent straight in. From what I understand, third base coach Rich Donnelly didn't even wave him in; he went in anyway.

J.D. Drew, to me, is on the same level as jock itch...an overrated piece of shit. I love to watch him fail. The Phillies look better and better every day for wisely telling Boras where to go and passing up on him.

What can I say, I am just an altrustic kind of guy. Now to the baseball game. The Mets tonight went up 2-0 in their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 4-1 win. The Mets starting pitching which has been questioned coming into this series is pitching to a 2.50 ERA in these first two games. The Dodgers played sloppy and the Mets capitalized on their opportunities and then gave the ball to Tom Glavine. To those that thought that the Hong Chih Kuo could out pitch a man who came into this game with 302 wins including his previous post-season wins, well you were sorely mistaken. Tom Glavine held the Dodgers to NO runs on 4 hits in 6 innings then left the rest up to the BEST bullpen in the National League. Next game is Saturday in Los Angeles where Greg Maddux tries to stave off elimination against either Steve Trachsel or Oliver Perez. 57,029 came to Shea and only two of those fans left unhappy that would be Mia Hamm ( wife of Nomar Garciaparra ) and Milagros. Final Score from Shea: The Mets 4 - The Dodgers 1. :rotate: :couch: :bouncybou
