The reason why the Cubs are on the brink of elimination...

reason-poor management and players not showing up to play

Perhaps psyched out players and fans, combined with a general morose atmosphere fused with Lou Pinella's high potential for losing with good teams in the playoffs?

But yeah, that Billy Goat continues to kill them from beyond the grave!

Cubs lose! Cubs lose!

WOW.

I didn't expect them to choke until game 3/4 of the NLCS... or game 1 of the WS...

So now what? How can they possibly get better than this year? Sign CC or K-Rod? Maybe Ben Sheets or Manny?

I don't see any of that happening... and the curse continues...

They need a new manager, a new owner and a new mindset

Don't discount the play of the Dodgers.

Exactly. 😀

Manny Ramirez .500 with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI
Russell Martin .304 with 2 runs and 5 RBI
James Loney with 6 RBI

Not to mention three quality starts from the three starting pitchers.
And Jonathon Broxton getting 10 outs over the three games while yielding no runs and no hits.

On to the NLCS. Go Dodgers!

They can start getting ready for the Red Sox, and the Red Sox can start preparing for them, because both teams are too hot and both greatly overmatch their potential opponents.

See you in the Series. Hopefully no Dane Cook commercials this year.

The Rays won the season series versus the Red Sox and the Rays also beat the Red Sox like a drum at home. Compound that with the fact that these kids don't seem to have any adverse reaction to pressure could spell trouble for ANY team. Not just the Red Sox.

I'm sure we can agree that any regular season series means nothing in October.

As far as their ability to handle pressure, the White Sox would be hand-picked by any of the other three AL playoff teams as their first-round opponent of choice, and the fact that they lost game three in Chi-town is a cause for concern (Josh Danks is no Jon Lester).

Don't take the White Sox series for granted just yet. No series begins until a game is won on the road.

I think everyone in America is praying for this!

As for the Sox, I think the Rays will pose good opposition for them (if they both win their series'.)

And the Dodgers are coming on strong, no doubt, but the Phils have lots of bats. I think the LA-Philly series may go 7 (and Ryan Howard may strike out 20 times)

Should be entertaining.

As for the Cubbies... Oi.

Uh, danks pitched a gem today

this i know, i was there

Danks should have atleast 4-5 more wins this year as well as for last year if not for offense

He is one of the top 5 pitchers this year for starts giving up 2 runs or less

A gem would be when the pitcher is missing bats. When the hitters are missing balls, that's not a gem. Danks didn't win that game. The Rays lost it. And next year, Danks will have 4-5 fewer wins then this year.

So his season 3.22 era in his first FULL season is all on a count of hitters missing balls?

Danks had a very strong regular season. However, he did not pitch especially well on Sunday. For that matter, he's looked better then he did in the team's one game playoff vs. Minnesota, despite his line in that gane.

It wouldn't matter who the sign. They're the Cubs. The weight of history lays heavy on them. They cannot win.

Sign C.C. Sabathia?? Oh yeah, that will sure help them in the playoffs! He did wonders for the Indians and the Brewers.

And goodie is wrong, too. New management and new ownership will make not one bit of difference. They will always be the Cubs.

I have resigned myself to the facts the Cubs will never be in a World Series. I have lived through 1969, 1984, 2003 and now 2008. Nothing changes.

Peace

Give the Dodgers some credit for playing well and winning.:couch: It's not all about some mystical curse on the Cubs.

Yeah, congratulations Dodgers for playing so well against the Cubs in the DS. Teams usually do play well against the Cubs in the playoffs. That's the way it goes. I hope you don't think it was just the Dodgers. SOMEONE was going to beat the Cubs before they got to the WS.

Yes the Dodgers creamed the Cubs, no doubt.

But the Cubs basically rolled over and let them as well.

It was a perfect recipe for disaster for the Cubs and Success for the Boys in Blue.

Now I'm psyched for the NLCS to see who shows up.

Cub fans cannot admit there are teams that are better. For christs sake ramirez hit .397 since the all star break

or maybe they will call ramirez the new cub goat

Management-cubs are resigned to just make money off attendance and their image
also management-pinella is a notorious bad manager, esp in division series', that can be seen in this one. Letting demptser load the bases, not playing fukudome against the one pitcher he was a stud hitting against
Players-The cubs need left handed bats and good ones. Harden is a rotation killer, if he can play a full season, he will destroy your pen because he is unable to go deep into games.

Believing in curses and mystical means is simply foolish and childish.

And you can't admit that there are forces you don't understand. Baseball is as much psychological and physical at strategic. The Cubs choke because history gets in the way of all the good work they do during a 162-game season. Simple as that.

Were the Dodgers the better team? For three games in October, yes. Goodieluver must think the Indians were better than the Yankees in '07. Better teams over the long haul are not necessarily the better teams in a short series.

I don't believe in curses. I believe in history. I believe in Leo Durocher and Leon Durham and Jim Frey and Mitch Williams and Steve Bartman and, how many errors was it?
