Here lie the New York Yankees...victims of thier own money.
And it's about time.
Perhaps baseball will finally follow in the footsteps of football and start to put some limits on the unreasonable spending by the top 3 or 4 teams in the league. (Yeah, I know the Yanks fans are going to point to the Sox' spending and revenue....but....well.....SHUT UP!!!! 😀 )
Ladies and gentlemen, let us not take the ALCS lightly this year. We have been witness to one of the great moments in sports history. Not only has no team in the history of baseball come back from a 3-0 deficit in the LCS...but out of the three sports that have "series-style" playoffs (Football is single-elimination), only two teams have ever accomplished this.
How many of us truly took the time last night to appreciate the great moment in history that we were witnessing? Forget who you were rooting for. Forget the stats, the runs, the hits, the errors. For those of us old enough to remember, or those of us vested enough in sports to be aware of...there have been few moments in history to match this. I remember sitting in front of my TV at the tender age of 12 and watching the US Hockey team defeat the Mighty Russians at the Lake Placid Olymics. I remember (as does my bro Ray) watching the highly improbable victory of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIV. And the "guarantee" victory of the New York Jets in Super Bowl III...that's something that's forever etched in the memories of fans forever. Let's not forget Ohio State's unbelievable overtime victory over a HEAVILY favored Miami State team only a few years ago.
Remember that feeling? We all had it last night. Yanks or Sox fan...or even those whose favorite teams were eliminated long ago...we were all one for a special moment.
There comes a moment maybe two or three times in one's life when you absolutley realize that you are watching history in the making, rather than realizing it only in the memory.
This was one of those times.
Screw the Curse. Screw the Empire. History unfolded, and it's something we can all tell our children that we were there to witness. So, thank you Boston for the incredible....
...just don't screw it up. 😀
