OKAY! COME ON! WHO'S A DORK LIKE ME HUH!?!?! COME ON!!!! LOL I'm talking about the dice driven, character sheet, GM/DM type roleplaying games....not the digital kind....

Yes I admit it! I am a seasoned GM who's played everything from Dungeons and Dragons to Paladium System games to White Wolf (my favorite). And I'm sure theres plenty more like me out there.....

Currently I'm involved in a D&D game being run by a friend of mine and let me tell you, I am the worst friggin thief on the planet! I seem to be great at surviving things (always roll great for dodging) but anything involving my actual thief skills like stealth, pickpocketing or lock picking I always botch the rolls. I've become the comic relief of the team.....and here I thought the guy playing the pyromaniac sorceror was gonna be.....LOL (should have gone with a Monk or Ranger 😛)

In a month or two when this game is done I"m gonna be running one of my own, a "Changeling: The Dreaming" campaign (done by White Wolf games). I"m one of the few people left who still runs such a game especially since White Wolf sold off all the rights to that game and virtually all the books for it are now out of print. I just like the idea of mythical creatures trying to live in the modern day world, specifically in my game, New York City. I think it was sold because it was the least dark of the "World of Darkness" games (Their big one is "Vampire: The Masquerade".....or actually now its "Vampire: The Requiem" which SUCKS ASS!!). I also liked the idea that you could pretty much get away with anything the imagination can conjur up in this game. In a previous game I did I had a player with a big gun that shot flaming pigs! LOL (yeah I'm one of those crazy GM's with all the freaky stuff getting thrown at you 😀)

Sooooooooo...ALL THE DORKS IN THE HOUSE SAY HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! 😛

I've never tried it....I'd probably really like it if I did though.

Oh I know you would Ness! They even have a system called "BESM" (Big Eyes, Small Mouth) Which is basically an Anime-based roleplaying system where you can do Anime themed games and characters....

Well, you know I used to be a DM...

...

This reminds me when I was a kid, and bullies tried to push me and my pals around, assuming I was a dork - and thus an easy mark.

...

Did I mention I have all sorts of scars on my knuckles?

...

😉

Holy crap. I used to play an INSANE amount of RPGs. And this was before video game ones. 😉 You name it, I played it.

It's weird that you brought this up; I just had to help my parents move and they brought a ton of my old stuff down from the attic. A few boxes were FULL of old role playing game books and boxes. Now I'm trying to figure out what the hell to do with them all. I don't know if I have the energy to put them all on ebay.

But! I do have a ton of dice, and from what a friend of mine tells me (she still plays D&D), the ones I have aren't made anymore. Do you think it's worth trying to sell them?

Hell Cat, if you wanted them badly enough...

Back in my college days I did:

D&D
Star Trek (both as Federation officers and as a Klingon crew member)
Villians & Vigiliantes
Either DC Comics or Marvel Comics RPG (can;t remeber which one for sure)
Gamma World
James Bond

I STILL have my "blaze orange" dice that I swear were cursed for all the low rolls I always kept getting....imagine a D&D cleric with a DEX of....3?????

I'll admit, I still play D&D with my friends on a regular basis. I'm a dork, but Im a drok that plays a druid, that makes it cool...right?

You would have been better of with your robes and nothing else, and go for a natural unmodified AC 9.

🙂

RPG Games I always loved, though I was a real fan of only the age of empires...tried some other things, but never liked them as much.

I always been a fan of the final fantasy series. Also, chrono trigger, xenogears. Back in the day when sega made good games, phantasy star series as well. 😀

I actually used to dabble a bit in D&D in high school. I'd had pretty good luck, but my modifiers sucked really bad at first, like I had a +1 or 2 tops on a lot of my stats. We did have one huge mission where I had 512 experience points, but I never figured out just how far that would level my character up. I'd just started, so he was only a level one.
I do remember one time in particular that jumped out at me. We were going through a cavern, and ran into a swarm of Grimlocks. For those who don't know, those are nasty, but weak orc-like creatures. Not all that sharp in the head either. Anyway, I had my character walk up to them, hold up my right hand, and speak the old Universal Greeting (Props to anyone who gets the reference).
"Bah weep grana weep nini bong!"
Everyone at the table cracked up, including the DM, who was a really big fan of the movie. He said "Ok, just for sheer originality I'm going to say that worked!"

I love it when people reply to a thread and never actually read the initial post that started it....LOL.....we aren't talking about video games man....

Transformers the Movie! The only animated kids movie I've ever seen with the word "shit" in it. LOL. For real....the scene where Unicron is destroying the moonbase where Spike and Bumblebee are (within the first 15-20 minutes of the movie), they try to set off an explosion to destroy it and it doesnt work. Spike exclaims "Aw shit we gotta get outta here!" ROFL 😛

We have a winner 😀 That was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Still is really. I'd be willing to put it up against a lot of today's movies. Nice to see someone else who knows it!

I love those games; I play D&D, WhiteWolf, Shadowrun, and Pallidian games. Plus I got so many sets of dice (I was the guy who you bugged if you forgot your dice).
BTW Cheshire_Cat_21 you won't beat my cultured Barbarian, turns out they can pick up speak language as a crossclass skill. I ended up paying 4 skill points for 1 language but I ended up with the most literate one in the group.

Anyone got any really funny characterts or stories to tell?

I began playing D&D(first edition) and then games from the Palladium line like RIFTS and the PRPFG. However, due to the ever increasing stupidity of Palladiums rules, I decided to bow out and go find a good game that made sense. So, I decided to pick up the third edition of SHADOWRUN. The d6 system has it's complexities but kicks the living hell out of anything Palladium can put out.

I have also taken a crack at D&D second and third edition. I have also done a small bit of the STAR WARS roleplaying game. The d20 system is the best.

Though I don't really have many people to play with anymore and also on account of the fact that I'm sick and tired of ending up as the GM, I pretty much have quit. I still leaf through my old books(they make wicked-slick bathroom reading material) and if I'm really bored, I sometimes like to fool with game mechanics in my head. Like my latest bit. I was converting the transformers(generation 1. Not that super happy energon wars japanimation crap that is on TV these days) to the shadowrun d6 system. You know, if I were ever serious at puting a d6 transformers game together, I could easily do it. The game mechanics from that particular system easily lends itself to transformer character generation.

Well.....our DM Rich uses his laptop to provide background music. In one scenario we passed through a halfling village where they worshiped a hamster diety. Their "song of worship" was the one from hampsterdance.com....ROFL. We ended up having to battle the evil rodent when it used this flame talisman thing to grow 5 times in size and don some bad ass flame armor......so obviously the fire sorceror was worried....we finally beat him when the barbarian screwed up a roll so bad he literally fell on it, pinning it down....I delivered the death blow by stabbing through its cute little furry head! LOL

In the last game I ran, a Changeling: The Dreaming game my friend Paul played this little old man inventor guy that had a mechanical wheel leg he could literally balance on and ride around like a motor-unicycle. He got into a steel cage match against another aging warrior and finally beat him by knocking him down, slamming his wheel down on the guys crotch.....THEN BURNING RUBBER! Needless to say the guys nutsack shot across the room and splattered on the wall!!! ROFLMAO

Our group helped one of our players who also GM'ed to test out a Star Trek scenario. I got to be Dr. McCoy, and our whip met up with a ship full of Daleks (from Dr. Who...."EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"). Obviously, he wrote it for a Dr. Who Convention. It was a hoot, esp, the poor gut who did Uhura that got to constantly say, "I'm scared, Captain.."
