I've started this thread in general discussion out of my own outrage that sci fi has cancelled my beloved Stargate SG-1 tv show. But I also realize that a lot of people likely don't give a rat's butt about that show, so I figured I might get better results if I just dangled a piece of cheese to anyone who thinks the sci fi network in general sucks, or is cool (which I myself dont anymore lol)

I'm interested to see where this goes. I am curious to see how many members here leave posts both in favor and against the sci fi network for their programming choices, and the shows they air. I almost labeled this the "anti" sci fi network thread.

I no longer watch the sci fi network, except when Stargate SG-1 is on. Once the rest of this (suddenly) final season airs, I will check with my cable provider about either replacing or blocking the network......

And you will................??

I gave up on the Sci-Fi channel after they took MST3000 off the air. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Although I have been known to watch the occasional episode of Dr. Who...the new series just does not compare to the good old Tom Baker days 🙂

SciFi had Farscape, Lexx, and Exposure... *sniff* They'll pay. Oh yes, they'll pay. :sowrong:

Actually I have nothing against them, just wanted to chip in. Have they really gone down hill since I stopped paying attention?
😉

As I keep telling my fellow SG1 fans, they're about to defeat the Ori, god-like beings. There's no where to go after that unless they do battle with Satan and other supernatural beings. Honestly, do you want to see O'Neill return to battle a planet full of vampires? Or Sam having to make silver bullets?

Do they even show any of the older, classic sci-fi shows and movies? Or is it just shows made for that channel?

I'm with you. The absence of SG-1 on Friday nights and also from my tivo will be a giant hole it will take some time to recover from. Really the show hasn't been what it was since Jack left anyway, but I still looked forward to it immensely.

Atlantis is fine, but it's not the same.

I boycotted the Sci Fi channel when they decided to drop Dark Shadows...the only soap opera i ever watched.... :ranty:

I loved the computer animated series "Tripping the Rift" so much I bought both seasons. As for those great movies like "Mansquito" and "Python vs Boa".......who's gonna miss :xpulcy: SG-1?

Original Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, the old Nightstalker (and soon the new one). They rerun a lot of shows. Right now they're doing Dead Like Me.

I wish they'd bring back Mystery Science Theater 3000!

I agree. Though once Joel left, I didn't like it as much anyway.

I hate Battlestar Galatica.

Not that I'd stop people from watching it, I just think it's stupid.

Alien Apocolyspe and The Man With The Screaming Brain both star b-movie god Bruce Campbell. How can you not like them just for him?

I loved every incarnation of that show. I think Joel was still there behind the scenes, so he was still a part of it. The only thing I missed with the post-Joel show was the pre-movie short films, those were hilarious too. And of coures Dr Forrester .

Sci-Fi has been trying to change it's image for along time. Right now they think that dropping MST3K and making movies so bad they should be on MST3K is the way to go.

I used to watch Lexx, Farscape, The Invisible Man, Good Vs. Evil, and when they would run one show all day I'd watch the old Battlestar Galactica and Automan. Obviously they don't think I am worth keeping these shows.

Star Trek is on G4 (the old TechTv) now. They do some weirf 2.0 crap that I don't watch, but Saturday Mornings they do a Star trek marathon.

it sucks that they've canceled SG1, but like everyone has said, it's getting pretty close to the end. they are so close to defeating the Ori, so what are they supposed to do after that?

and there is Atlantis so there is some hope 'cause some of the SG1 members will probably guest star on there.

i really like the new series, Eureka, Sci-Fi has on now. and sometimes the Sci-Fi channel has some good shows.

i wouldn't give up the Sci-Fi channel so quickly and permanently, 'cause maybe down the road there'll be a new show or something that'll draw ya back.

Well. hell. they defeated the Ga'ould and then the Ori came along. All they need is for the Wraith to find earth and SG-1 lives on! It's only a matter of finding a new enemy. But I'm just being difficult. I'm like that 😀

I've seen Eureka once and I'm willing to give it some more time, but it's not grabbing me.

And speaking of SciFi channel movies, I had such high hopes for Chupacabra and then it just STUNK. No more movies for me.

Personally, I think about 99% of the Sci Fi channel is crap. I never cared for the Stargate series, except for those few episodes that had Claudia Black and the main guy from Farscape in them.

Farscape, MST3K, and Firefly were the best things that they had on that channel. Battlestar Galactica (the new series, not the old stuff) had its moments as well (although admittedly, I was mostly just distracted by how hot that Korean chick was... lol).

They need to rebuild the channel from ground up.

1) With the wealth of sci-fi and fantasy writers in the world, why aren't they contributing to the channel?

2) If you're going to show movies...stop showing the godawful "sci-fi pictures" movies, and show the good classic stuff. Screw "Python", "Komodo", and the rest of them...get in "Earth Vs. The Spider", "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms", and "Them"....the movies that got it right.

3) If you're going to do shows like "Scare Tactics" and "Who Wants To Be A Superhero"....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease upgrade from the current "high school" level of tv production. I felt like crying for Stan Lee, for attaching his name to such a shoddy, amateurish production.

4) I honestly believe that the suits at the top don't care for, or take seriously for that matter, the genre. The channel is an embarressment to any fan of sci-fi or horror.

But I digress... :ranty:

I feel your pain. I was outraged when they took Farscape and Space: Above and Beyond off the air. It's the freakin' SCI-FI Channel, for cripe's sake! :ranty: However, being fair, I've recently been turned on to a new show called Eureka that they're producing, and it's freakin' brilliant. As have been many of their offerings. So it's not as if they've totally dropped the ball... just a few fumbles at 3rd & ten. :sowrong:
