In a Chemist's Shoppe in London, on a typically foggy day, the chemist on duty notices a man in the full dress uniform of the Black Watch Highlanders regiment standing to one side of the line of customers, patiently waiting until the morning rush is over and the store is empty except for himself and the chemist.
The soldier approaches the counter, clears his throat, and reaches into his sporran. He takes out a clean but clearly used condom and places it on the counter. He asks the chemist; "Hoo moch tae hae yon rrrubberrr rrrepairred?"
(Read on; that was NOT the punchline!)
The chemist opens a drawer and takes out a tweezer and a magnifying glass. He holds the bedraggled object up to the light and examines it closely. Returning it to the counter, the chemist replies; "Frankly, sir; there are three holes, one tear and several spots worn thin. It would cost less to buy new than to have this fixed."
The Scotsman replaces the artifact in his sporran. Saying; :Wait. I'll rrreturrrn prrresently!" he exits the shoppe.
Curious, the chemist watches the soldier enter a phone booth right in front of the shoppe. The man makes a very brief call and hangs up. Then, the phone in the booth rings, the Scot picks up, and this time he's on the phone for well over two hours. Interrupted by only a handful of customers, the chemist watches in puzzled fascination until the call is completed.
The Highlander returns to the shoppe. After looking to see that there are no other customers present, he steps up to the counter, squares his shoulders, and announces; "We've tae'en a poll o' the rrregiment, an' they've authorrrized the purrrchase o' aye noo ane!"
