Ok, tickling community...speak up! We've all seen how people have gushed, praised, slobbered over, brown-nosed, and placed high on a pedestal, this forum and its administrators, so let's flip the coin.

What is it that irritates you about the TMF? What aspect about our little corner of cyberspace makes you just want to plunge two fingers down your throat and hurl lunch? It can be anything, as long as it positively makes you nauseous. I'm curious about what turns your stomach. Is it the fact you can’t post pics? Is it the endless recycling of discussion topics? The scintillating “where are you ticklish” chat participants? Combinations of these? Here's your chance to join the circle and sing, “Ramble On”

I'd like to get as many members of our community involved in this thread as possible, so don't be shy. Mods, veterans, newbies...chime in!

As far as I’m concerned, the TMF could be a great place except for the element of control and censorship that pervades the atmosphere like a dark storm cloud growing stronger with each passing month.

And how about this obsession with badly drawn Japanese cartoons. Just what is THAT all about?? I’ve never seen so many god-awful signatures in ANY forum! People are actually choosing these bug-eyed characters for their identities?! Come on!

One final point, and I’ll open the floor for comments. Does anybody besides me think it was a big mistake to rank people by the sheer volume of posts they submit? Big Jim is probably the best example of the ensuing “Diarrhea of the Keyboard” resulting from this lapse in judgment.

My 2 Cents

Like any other place, there are some people who don't get along, and I'm no exception. I'm QUITE certain there are people here who CAN'T STAND ME! That's okay with me because I accept the fact that not everybody gets along, so unless its an un-provoked attack, I don't mind them; I can even appreciate them for it.

But my big beef with the TMF is the threads and posts. Primarily the volume of things. I think you're right that a lot of posts are redundant, but unfortunately, some of these posts deal with issues that are so big that before anybody can post anything, they're pushed off the front page by other threads. If certain sex, religious or political threads could be isolated and allowed to expand on their own, that might clean up the traffic.

Also, I think unanswered posts or LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG-neglected posts should be deleted. Because navigating the records are exhausting and very difficult to access. If you make a mistake, it could take you forever to get back.

I can't think of anything else right now, if there IS anything. But keep in mind that these are suggestions, NOT DEMANDS or OUTRIGHT COMPLAINTS. If Myriads or the other big boss people PM or write saying "Amn...shaddap", I'll shaddap aboot it.

Sorry, Canadian slip.

To Agree or Disagree..theat is the question...

Nope.. I promise not to quote shakespear. But not only being a loyal and loud member for a few yrs now let me speak of what I have observerd. ( spelling not included with your price of admission ). First Drew. We are good aquaintances in the Forums. I like alot of what you say and you speak your mind.I have also seen your posts in the AMT. This thread to me seems like one of 2 things. Either to prove to the stone heads in AMT that were are not as bad as they bash us to be here... or you are proving their point right. I dont know which. Just my observation. As for any complaints from me, well, maybe one. We do need to be a little more tolerant of each other. And that goes for everyone. If you have something you see running against policy then take that person aside and discuss it with his or her. There may actually be a valid reason ( i.e. colors during Trivia )No reason to Bash a person in mid Trivia. Thats it for me. Hope you all had a Happy 4th. Just listening to that Blonde on channel 4 mutilate George W. Bush ( she said Bosch ) name made me proud. see ya all later

what don't I like about the TMF? people who do nothing but complain at every opportunity, mostly...

drew, basically i agree with you...but dont bother...this forum was basically started by clique members for clique members...they run it. i agree that you cannot post anything negative on here because it is a touchy feely forum and the only thing youre allowed to post without getting skewered by the mods is "great post", "good find", "good job". other than that, free speech does not appear on this board. however, i have come to accept that. im not happy about it, but ive accepted it. the mods started and run this board and if they dont like what you post, then you either dont post or you go start your own forum that truly has free speech...or you go post at alt.multimedia.tk. i know that you and dodger and jeremey have been doing that, and i think its great. remember, im on your side...but save it for AMT. youre barking up the wrong tree here.

What you call control and censorship is in fact the essential characteristic of a moderated forum.

If you do not respect the wisdom and judgement of the moderators, then you will not like the forum. That is clear.

So what can you do in that case? Three obvious alternatives come to mind.

a) Find another moderated forum, whose moderators you do respect. I know of two other moderated tickling forums, without having searched for any. TickledTilBegging, founded by Master Palladin, and the United Kingdom Tickling Forum, founded by Big Jim.

Which brings up the second alternative:

b) Found your own forum. Who's stopping you?

And finally:

c) Use an unmoderated forum. Clearly, you already do that; AMT is there for you.

If you ask me, the stuff people don't like about this place makes it all the more fun! 😉

Long Live The TMF!!! 😀

Wow! A mod is posting in this section??? Yep. There are a couple of things I don't like as well. But, they have nothing to do with what Jeff has given us or any of that.

The thing I dislike is the way people insist on the right to slam one another and act like total jerks. If their personal insults (which is the ONLY thing other than trafficing in restricted material that isn't allowed) are editted or deleted, they go crying to anyone who will listen. Personal insults, breaking the law and stealing are the only things you can't do here. I think that's pretty reasonable.

The one thing I would have to say I don't like about being a mod here... I can't nuke idiocy on sight. But, if I did, the censorship complaints would be correct. So, I guess that's actually a good thing.

We've had some very heated debates here...a couple of which I've personally been involved in. Those were left up. We've had some issues that I am personally uncomfortable with. Those were left up. We've had people posting just to complain or cause trouble. As long as they are within the rules, even THEY are left up.

Yep. You're right. There's too much moderation going on! We should be ashamed of ourselves, hang our heads and go hide in the corner! I call on my fellow mods to join me in doing penance.

Ann
(sarcasm DEFINITELY intended)

What I don't like is people that don't know the difference between a negative point of view and being blatantly insulting to another individual.

Re-read the start of this thread and I am sure you will see examples of both.

BigJim?! I sincerly doubt he's the best example by any stretch of the imagination. Instead, take a look at HisDividedSilhouette. He is the first ever indigo feather... and he's been registered for less time than I have.

Speaking of him... I still can't get over how he never spells his name correctly.

I thought Big Jim was the first ever Indigo Feather. Hmm, you're absolutely right. Funny though, I don't recall seeing much from this individual. When I see a Japanese cartoon in the signature, I have a tendancy to skim past such a post. Regardless, when one finds one's posting frequency exceeding the majority, the reasonable thing to do is throttle back. HisDividedSilhouette only proves my point about the ranking scheme.

And let me just say to Ann, Ven, and the others who've frowned on this thread: I threw it out here to balance out Dave2112's thread. There are two sides to every coin and if one side is to be heard, why not the other? And Ven, I notice the only thing you said you don't like about the TMF are certain people. Is it really the people you don't like? Or is it their actions you disdain? I'm pretty sure you meant the latter.

you're right, drew. I mean, it's not like anyone *ever* voices negative opinions about the TMF in public, so we certainly need an entire thread to call attention to them. 🙄

Drew,

Let me get this straight. You saw a thread about why people like this forum, and felt compelled to start a thread of angst and unhappiness to 'balance it out', as though the nay-sayers here needed any prompting? I find that very sad and rather unsettling coming from an adult. Does every pleasant notion need something unpleasant to properly weigh in on some cosmic scale? Must a weed be planted near every flower? 🙁 :sowrong:

I suppose there will always be folks who need to surround themselves with name calling, insults, and needless cruelty to one another, and justify such juvenile behavior as a need for 'true honesty' and 'real life', when the truth is that they simply cannot express themselves otherwise. People who's self esteem is so low that they need to harm others to feel good about themselves. As a preschool teacher I'm familiar with such but I usually get to avoid it here. There are places for those people, but the TMF isn't that place. This is a much needed safe haven for those who just want to have a bile-free online experience, without hatred and mean-spiritedness. The mods are doing a fine job and I truly hope it stays that way.

Bella

P.S. WHY do people who have such issue with this place keep coming back if other places are so much freer and 'real' ? 🙄

Hmmm, what I don't like about the TMF? You mentioned the continuous reposting of the same topics, so I guess we could include this one. The same rants, the same "my precious rights are being trampled 'cuz I can't be an ass to people" threads.

As long as we're on the subject, one of those bitches would be about alleged "overmoderation." If that were the case, this thread would be gone. There's no reason to get rid of it, it's a valid topic. However, a little originality might have been a better way to make the same point over and over again. Must have really taxed those three brain cells it took to copy and paste the thread that I actually put coherant thought into. No need to tax all eleven of them, eh?

I guess I can't even say that it's something I "hate" about the TMF. It's to be expected whenever a large group of people get together. It's so much easier for a small minority of children to complain while the grown-ups talk at the big people's table. Diversity is good, or else you have communism. I could go into a long explanation of how the moderation process actually works, but as you said, these things have been covered. Those with an IQ larger than their neck size have understood it long ago, so I won't waste my or thier precious time by regurgitating it for the amusement of one or two bored individuals.

I guess if there's one thing I could pick that perturbs me bit when I give it a moment of my thought (which is seldom), is that those who complain and have "much better" ways of doing things have neither the intellectual capability, the desire or the drive to do it better themselves. It's so much easier to stand in someone else's house and whine about the color than to paint your own. That would take courage and desire.

Some excellent thoughts in the most recent posts to this thread, but I think Phin said it best from my point of view:

😕 Drew, why is it that when someone who happens to be a mod posts something that they don't like, there's something wrong with it or we're frowning on your thread? I simply took you up on your invitation and expressed my own opinions and observations. I find nothing wrong with this thread in and of itself...as long as the opinions expressed remail civil. (Yes, adults ARE capable of being critical and civil at the same time.) There's no reason to get defensive about us responding. After all, isn't that what you've invited us to do?

Peace!
Ann

I stand corrected. There are very few people in this world that I have a general dislike for. Again though we are getting off topic when replies contain remarks directed at individuals and making fun of their user names or sig pics. To each their own. These are the types of comments I find objectionable as they serve no purpose other than to make people feel bad. I am SURE that was not your intention, though that is the end result.

As to the matter of "rankings" and "post counts", many of those who have high post counts have them because of the silly posts they have made, myself included. There is a place for such posts and for having fun here. The feather rankings mean nothing. We do not even have any rankings at all on other boards I am involved with. Some allow members to put their own titles in. I did not know that they meant so much to you,Drew. 😉

Oh and one more thing...where did you EVER get the idea that I frowned upon this thread. You really ought not to judge how others feel about things so much....🙄 The subject (if stuck to) has merit.

Ann and Ven

I wholeheartedly apologize for misinterpreting your comments. Thanks for seeing the value in this thread and supporting it. 🙂

<i>And speaking of intuitive posts, what is up with those inquisitive posits in the discussion section? Again, by way of example: "Are women with second-longer toes born in October more ticklish than others?", "Should I tickle my mother in-law?" And then there's those wonderously ponderous posts (ex:"Feet I saw in the bus on the way to work") that prompt one into deep contemplation. In sum, I'll quote Steve Martin from Planes Trains and Automobiles: "Here's an idea...Have a point! It makes it so much more interesting for the listener (ie: reader)!"</i>

That is some of the funniest stuff I have read in a _loooooong_ time.

Thanks for the laugh!!!

what i dont like about the TMF is the small few who decide to cry and bitch and moan about something that is provided for them for FREE. no one MAKES them come to the TMF, they do so on their own free will. yet, they want to complain about stuff that they have absolutely NO CONTROL of. i also dislike the fact that they cry about "free speech" and "censorship", but this forum isnt the US Constitution. it is a moderated forum. which means, the moderators have FULL AUTHORITY to exercise their "censorship" authority. remember, this place is provided to us for FREE. in the blink of an eye, this forum could disappear. enjoy this place while you can.

what i also dont like is when those same small few decide to insult other members on the board. remember, "to each his own". all this talk about "free speech" makes you think about being in a free country. but also keep in mind the United States for example has MANY different cultures, races, etc. to each his own. if someone wants to write a silly post. let him. dont read it. how do you know if that person is posting a bunch of silly threads? you wouldnt if you didnt read them. about the feather rankings. get over it, it is something fun to see. if someone wants to write a zillion posts so he can be "supreme feather", let him. you can post at your own rate, and YOU will be happy. why ruin someone else's fun?

now that i got my chance to rant and rave, i hope people understand that this is a place for fun. WHY try to be negative about it? i deal with people complaining over the dumbest crap EVERYDAY. i dont need to come to a tickling forum and see the same thing. sports boards, religion boards, and political boards i can understand the negativity. a tickling forum? c'mon people, RELAX and stop crying about every little thing.

and those are my 2 cents......

Honestly, Drew...

...You can be SUCH a deficational-oscillator sometimes! 😛

People! Hear me! Don't like it? F*@&ing LEAVE!

Land of the Free! Which means you're free to not let the door hit you on the @$$ on the way out!

Honestly, Drew. You're quite the Master-Debater 🙄 but you've really gotta let this bone go, bro. Give it a rest, huh? All this does is rehash the same old crapola, and the vast majority isn't even remotely interested! And I think you already know it. C'mon, admit it. 😉 TMF's not gonna change for the same few squeaky wheels, dude! We just collectively roll our eyes and say, "Oh, there goes so-and-so again." Some get indignant. But for the most part, it's just wasted bandwidth. Come on, I'll buy you a water-ice. Now shush!

Treats for tantrums? sign me up Danimal

Come on, I'll buy you a water-ice. Now shush!

(Bouncing up and down) OOOH OOOH I want a water-ice!! If I get all negative and nit-picky can I have one too huh can I??

The TMF is ugly and it's mother dresses it funny!

Aaaah skip it, with my luck I'll prolly just get a spankin'. Hey waitaminit... 😎

Wouldn't be a first, now would it? Nor would it be the last...

Wouldn't be a first, now would it? Nor would it be the last...

Wouldn't even be the first time this weekend, had my own 4th of July fireworks 🙄 😎

But I *did* come up with something I don't like about the TMF. I don't like the fact that folks can whine about what's wrong here on other forums and NG's, then come back here. Yes I know it's a free country, and I realize how petty and uncharitable that must sound. But since we're being honest...personally if I knew people were inhabiting a forum that I spent good money to provide while they bad-mouthed both it and me elsewhere, they'd be gone. See ya, buh-bye. No insults, no loud arguments, just no membership. Would my feelings be hurt? Hardly. But I have no patience for the unappreciative and purposely hurtful. The fact that people can do just that-watch for 'censorship' here and run whining to other forums to lament and moan-says quite a bit in favor of the tolerance practiced by the owners and mods here. I applaud them.

Bella
