There are musicals..and then there are musicals..

This is the movie version from the 60's. The original couldn't really be called a musical, it only had two songs from the show.
It was made in a movie then years later into the musical then the movie musical.

Out of curiosity, where did you find the CD? I've been looking for it for aeons and haven't yet come across it.

Purchased it online years ago through some local online shopping service who in turn ordered it from somewhere else. Not sure if it's still available though...

I was Motel the tailor in Fiddler as a sophomore in High School. Still my ultimate favorite musical by far.

The Music Man: always wanted to play Harold Hill. Great show, plus based on a true story as told to Meredith Wilson(who also wrote the Iowa fight song!) who based River City on Mason City, Iowa, his hometown

The King and I: partial to that, played the King my senior year...great play

Sweeney Todd: Saw Angela Lancaster in that on A&E 20+ years ago, liked it a lot

Camelot: Such great music and characters there! Surprised it has not been mentioned

Have not seen Wicked or Phantom but would like to sometime

Did not care for JC Superstar or Godspell

I hate big cheesy musicals like Guys and Dolls or anything with typical show-tuney stuff in it. Couldn't get into Wicked because while it was trying to be accurate to both Wicked the book and the story of The Wizard of Oz, there were huge discrepancies, which, as a literary nerd, I just could not get past.

My favorite has to be Les Miserables. I just love a good tragedy.

Written by Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond series.

I still have the book issued by Weekly Reader Book Club when I was in school. I found out I was reading on the 'Senior' Level. I was in Jr. high at the time and found out I was reading three grades above what everyone else. Always scored in the 100 percentile in reading and reading comprehension in the old CAT's.

I can't believe I forgot it in my earlier posts in this thread. I just watched it a couple of months ago and that damned theme song still pops in my noggin unannounced now and then, "Oh - you - chittychittybangbang, chittychittybangbang - we love you. Oh - you - ch-" :lol

I was the same in school. Aced the reading/comprehension, but I bombed most of the time on the math & science edumacation.

Funny about that, Rick. Same here. I wasn't interested in the math/science they taught. I was into more into the advanced mathematics and science.

Watching things boil was not in my area. The only math I was interested in was quantum/spacial/time math. Still am.

I didn't get regular math like everyone else, I ended up with a select few in the computer room learning how to program a computer in the late 60s.

I wanted to see Les Miserables because I sang a song from that musical but all I found was the movie. It didn't have the song I was looking for.The song was ''On My Own''

As a musical thertre major in college, I have to say I have a preference to:

Brigadoon
The Wizard of Oz
RENT (No Day But Today)
Wicked
1776
Sweeny Tod
The Rocky Horror Picture Show

There are others, but those are mostely ones i've acted in
EDIT: How could I forget Chicago?

Favorite Musicals:

1) High School Musical
2) High School Musical 2
3) High School Musical 3
4) Camp Rock
5) Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam
6) West Side Story

Sweeny Todd, Repo the Genetic Opera and South Park I'll agree were pretty good. I'd also add the broadway play Urinetown. I never got to see it on broadway but I did see a local production that was pretty great. I also recently downloaded Carrie the musical but haven't watched it yet.

As long as it has a sexy vivacious lady in a skimpy dress, sparkly outfit, or a feathery costume dancing, I'm all for it. ^_^

Phantom of the Opera with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, I have the CD, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Brigadoon and the cult musicals Phantom of the Paradise, Shock Treatment, RHSP and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls{even though they lip sinc, I love the songs}, I like Ol' Man River from Showboat, Memory from Cats, Day by Day from Godspell, Try to Remember from The Fantasticks and Mariah from Paint your Wagon{not the movie version} but one good song doesn,t make a good musical.
