This crow must have forgotten he could fly

Hi All! I just saw the funniest thing (funny as in strange). I wish I had video of it.

I just walked up to my window and they were three crows out in the yard.

They must have saw me, because two of them flew off. The third just sit there looking at me. All of a sudden, he takes off, not flying, running. (And, pretty fast too-for a bird)

All I could figure was that he must've forget he could fly.

My guess ( and I am no bird expert) is that it takes considerably more energy to fly than to walk or even run.
I've been in my car driving up the road with crows in the street and have seen them run to the side of the road instead of flying.
They also tend to wait until the last minute to get out of the way.
If you slow down to give them time to get out of the way they take even longer.

Eh, I feel they are much akin to the trickster spirits the Native Americans believed them to be. Loving to play lighthearted pranks but serving a purpose like everything in nature (in this case as scavengers and the occasional guide to lost souls). 😉 😀
