......its now a full two years on, and as yet no sign of a new building taking shape. I have read about all the focus groups and all the meetings and every one trying to pull in different directions regarding what should be put in place of the twin towers. This is all well and good, and is the proper way to proceed but I would very much like to see some action soon.
The best message the U.S. can send to the world and to terrorists is that its business as usual, the last thing I would like to see is an enormous, sprawling, suffocating monument to the innocent victims and a scaled down apologetic commercial segment, that fails to reflect the value and status of the site, positioned as it is in the heart of one of the worlds most important financial capitals.
It is of course right and proper that the victims and their famillies are given carefull and generous representation on ground zero, but in my view this consideration should not be allowed to risk the perpetrators of this outrage and their followers, seeing ground zero as a permanent symbol of their power.
I would like to see the U.S. demonstrate to the world what it is capable of, by producing a spectacular new piece of architecture capable of reflecting the memory of the victims and the scale of the tradjedy, but just as importantly, being an efficient, vibrant, commercial success.
I can not think of a better way of getting the message across to the terrorists than for them to see how futile their efforts have been when they see what the U.S. are capable of producing on ground zero. They must be made to see that what ever they thought they were going to acheive, they have failed.
My thoughts are with all my U.S. friends on this day.
