You can open swf files even in the most basic "Internet Explorer". Maybe you can't open them straight in Firefox (don't know... for some reason I am using IE for it so I guess there were some problems with that before...) and from memory also QuickTime would be able to open it. Just try to select one of these applications if it doesn't automatically suggest them.
