What many people here who know me well enough will find surprising, is that despite being both a Tim Burton fan and quite obviously and Alice and Wonderland fan, I'm actually really sketchy about this whole thing. Its like two great tastes that taste strange together. Alice in Wonderland is one of those stories that NO ONE has done correctly in film form, the closest being a made for TV version back in the 80's that was done in two parts, telling both stories separately; Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass which most people are surprised to learn are actually two completely separate stories. The only aspect that killed that was making it a musical and using a rather odd selection of B-movie and second rate TV personalities for the cast like Telly Sevalis and Scott Baio.

Granted the Cheshire Cat looks AWESOME in this trailer...but I heard that in this one they're introducing a ROMANTIC ELEMENT BETWEEN ALICE AND THE MAD HATTER! 😛issed ......WHY CAN'T ANYONE DO IT RIGHT?!?! Why does everyone ALWAYS have to change something!?! Either make it "darker" or "modernized" or "with a twist"....COME ON!!!

I have this mental image of some long table with all these film heads talking, that one guy stands up and goes "Hey I know guys! Why don't we just keep it as is and not change anything AT ALL?"....and then he's swiftly shot in the head...

.....is just one director/producer actually doing the story AUTHENTICALLY really too much to ask? ....someone go talk to Zack Snyder...he couldn't have done a more authentic direct adaptation of the Watchmen comic if he tried...

......but yeah I know I'll see it....it is Alice after all 🙂

From the look of the trailer, I propose a better title! "The Wonderfully Mad World of the Mad Hatter." It seems the perfect new title for this story which focuses solely on the Mad Hatter's ability to sell the star power that is Johnny Depp.

I agree...I mean yeah I totally understand that Tim Burton likes his "core" entourage of actors that he's comfortable with, especially Johnny Depp (and more recently Helena Bonham Carter who he's married too) but COME ON!! Give some new talent a chance!! Take a risk on a new leading male for a change!! I mean I'm surprised as hell that he went with Ewan McGreggor when he did "Big Fish" but then again that wasn't nearly as dark or warped visually as his normal works.

I'm starting to wonder if Burton has a latent homosexual fixation with Depp and might have even tailored this whole script to cater to the Mad Hatter JUST to satiate his desire for more Johnny candy. XD

You ever wonder if Depp ever responded to a roll request from Burton like "Are you serious Tim? Again? *sigh*" LOL

I bet you want to see the movie solely for the Cheshire Cat... 🙂

Right C-cat? 😉

LMAO...

Johnny is married to Helena???? Since when??? anyway...there has never been a very good version of either stories...and yes i'm very aware that there are two separate stories...i sometimes like "Through the looking glass" better..i used to imagine going thru my mantel mirror...such a magical tale...and Alice and the Mad Hatter???? ooo and Johnny playing him..mmmm sighs..i so agree Cheshire...Alice is only supposed to be about seven years old...damn..i guess she grew up...or ate too many "eat me" cakes ...oo and Alice in Wonderland..how i longed to go thru that small door in the hall..

I meant she's married to Burton, not Depp XD

The Mad Hatter isn't what I'd call a star role, at least not in the original Alice in Wonderland. I actually want to know who plays the stoned caterpillar. XD

Well,I must say I am excited.I have always wanted to see Alice In Wonderland. The closest I got was a play at a college.

I thought the feature length animated film was very disturbing for some reason.

Oh I indeed have a very important date! Can you imagine this movie in 3D!OMG I am highly excited and cannot wait!!! I can't believe I have to wait this long!

I spoke with a lawyer about this, and apparently there is a law where you can not make a movie that is exactly like a book that was published without the original author's or a representing party's, consent. And so, since Charles Dodgson died so long ago, I don't thik he has anyone to say, "Yes, please make a movie out of my books, EXACTLY as I wrote them."

And yes, lws like tht make life hard for everyone....

The thing is Alice in Wonderland has long since become public domain, the copyrights having been expired for a long time...

Oh and mikepd, you want to see a REALLY disturbing Alice in Wonderland? This is one of the most bizarre, a partially live action, partially stop motion animated Czechoslovakian version by insane film maker Jan Svankmejer....

(this is the scene where Alice gets really big after eating the tart in the White Rabbits house and they try to get her out)

I feel like I'm gonna have a nightmare, but I'm wide awake. Dammit, I'm gonna have a waking nightmare! Thanks a lot!

Lol I love stop motion. So cool. And freaky...

As for the Burton one, I dunno. I was kinda looking forward to seeing American McGee's Alice but I think that's been shelved for the forseeable future? But I saw a picture of Depp as the Mad Hatter and I can't say I like the style myself. I'm more of a purist. And yeah, I think this might just stink a bit of "The Johnny Depp Show" yet again. Burton wants his babies I think.

Meh, we'll see when it comes out - I'll still go see it 😀

I'm actually thankful that the American McGee project was cancled...they had planned on getting Sarah Michelle Gellar to play Alice 😵...my guess is the game fell into obscurity so there won't be much desire to see it any time soon...

And yeah...first thing I thought of when I saw the Depp Mad Hatter was "He looks like a J-Rocker pedophile" XD

Oh Alice is it
i have seen this trailer some time ago and have some pictures of characters from the film
(most notably Mad Hatter, the twins TT hehe)
i have been frustrated with the alice in wonderland movies
mainly because i really would like to see American Mcgees version adapted to the big screen -sigh-
will have to settle with this one shall we hmm

Johnny Depp is always awesome in anything he plays!

As much as I hate to admit it...you have a point...and plus I've known straight men who said they'd go gay for him XDDD

Although...I'm not particularly fond of his portrayal of Willy Wonka...that's one role I felt he really wasn't the best choice for. If anyone is interested in seeing him in an actual sex scene with Christina Ricci...go rent "The Man Who Cried" 😉

I agree that Depp is awesome, but Burton's movie's do seem to have the same look/feel. AIW is such a great story-I hope he mixes things up a little bit.

oo shame shame on you people...Depp is the best actor in ages to me..and i think he'll make a purrrrrrrrfect Mad Hatter...i wasn't keen on Edward Scissorhand..or the remake of Willy Wonka...but in everything else wow..he's superb...not to mention those eyes...sighs...oops izzy really...get a grip girl..

and oooooooo ok that explains why Carter was in that demon barber movie..i didn't like her particularly...but Johnny now he was terrific..

I think this movie is going to be awesome

Not just because johnny depp is in there😛 BUT ALAN RICKMAN IS THERE TOO:O

man this movie is gonna be sweet plus i know its gonna be good since its a tim burton production

well i am a fan of tim burton and everything and every movie he has made was great
