next seasons free agents: Heath Miller, Casey Hampton, Ryan Clark, Jeff Reed, Hines Ward, James Harrison, Brett Keisel, William Gay(RFA), Justin Hartwig, Willie Parker, Daniel Sepulveda, Matt Spaeth, Darnell Stapelton, Gary Russell, Deshea Townsend, Troy Polamalu

not to mention Max Starks, Marvel Smith, Nate Washington, Bryant Mcfadden, Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich, Chris Kemoatu this year

and Lamar Woodley in 2010.. I hate to say it but i think this year is going to be our last chance to get a ring for awhile. It seems every significant player outside of Big Ben is a free agent in the next year

it may seem laughable now but there is no way that we can resign all of those people. Troy,James,Heath and Hampton could break the bank somewhere and the Steelers historically dont pay people and will let them go and try to fill their spot.

The Steelers couldn't resign Plax either.

The next year we won the Super Bowl.

Then we lost Randall El and Faneca... and STILL won the Super Bowl.

Need I list all the FA's we lost from 1993-2005 when we still won 10+ games a year, went to 5 AFC Championship games and a SB?

Thing of it is:

Pittsburgh is the most consistent franchise of the last 15-20 years.

Yes, sooner or later the wheels will come off, but until they do I will not cry wolf.

But Plaxico was never anything special until he left

Randle El wasnt much of a contributer who got a big contract for no reason and he hasnt done anything since he left

And Faneca did hurt to lose but he is old and wanted a lot of money.

None of those free agents are over the hill and are all huge contributers to the team

Lets go player by player:

Heath Miller-Probably going nowhere. We need him and will pay him.

Casey Hampton- Old, out of shape and oft injured. Will probably be let go and/or resigned for 1/2 price

Ryan Clark-Heavy hitter, but overrated, may be resigned. No big loss if he isn't

Jeff Reed-He's a kicker. Replacable.

Hines Ward-Old. Will be resigned and retire a Steeler

James Harrison-Getting older, having contract problems now. Will be cut ala Joey Porter, Levon Kirkland and Jason Gildon once he peaks.

Brett Keisel-Replacable like Kimo Van O and many others before him.

William Gay(RFA)-A dime a dozen DB. Replacable.

Justin Hartwig-Good, solid, kind of old. MIGHT be resigned, time will tell.

Willie Parker-Injury issues. Mendenhall, Moore and Russell's emergence will determine his fate.

Daniel Sepulveda-Injured, young, punter. MAY be resigned, but PIT isn't big on retaining special teamers.

Matt Spaeth-Blocking TE. Can be let go.

Darnell Stapelton-Will probably be let go or kept for cheap.

Gary Russell-Backup RB at best. Cheap resign.

Deshea Townsend-Old and overrated. Easily replacable.

Troy Polamalu-Going NOWHERE!

not to mention Max Starks, Marvel Smith, Nate Washington, Bryant Mcfadden, Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich, Chris Kemoatu this year

Half of which are replacable. Max, Nate and McF will return, others probably not.

Still concerned?

Barry Foster, Eric Green, Neil O'Donnel, Yancey Thigpen, Charles Johnson, Rod Woodson, Chad Brown, Kevin Green, Dermonti Dawson, Jason Gildon, Levon Kirkland... Countless others...

The Steelers lose key players, but the Steelers find ways to compete.

Again, I will cry wolf AFTER PIT has back-to-back losing seasons... which hasn't happened since like 1999-2000.

hope your right and i remeber worrying about joey and plex among others going, but this is so many of the key guys to come up all at once
