....wait...(looks at title)...20? How the f*** did I even make it that far? How can you people have kept me this steamed for so long? I feel like I need to go out and just throw trash in the middle of the road just so...forget it.
Anyway let's get on with the rant, with the ranting and the complaining and the whinning and the rar rar rar...

Today in class we're going to learn about "E...M...O....Emo" and how it pisses me off. Brushing up on the history of Emo on Wikipedia cause research is for pussies...Emo started with the rise of punk rock music. In just a few years it's become the poster term to describe a person who's emotionally crippled and a slang term. And the response to its existence has been...just terrible.
I might not be familiar with punk rock or junk rock...whatever the kids called it these days but I am familiar with depression. I also find it quite...sickening that people who do suffer from it are met with the most unbelievable amount of hostility...the last thing someone with depression really needs.

"Oh my gosh, she cuts herself and listens to Lincoin Park. What a freak". Well yeah that's abnormal but will harsh criticism actually be the best response to extreme situations? F*** no. But it's becoming so derogatory that just even ANY emotion a human being displays is a sign of "Emo". It makes no sense to me since emotion is what being human being is about. But emotion makes no sense to me cause I like logic, but that I will put aside for now.

I mean come on, if it wasn't for "Emo"...no let's not use that term. Let's use emotion, we wouldn't have the renaissance, Greek philosophy, Martin Luther King Jr, Shakesphere....I could go on and on.

Are people now a days so scared of each other that even public display of an emotional breakdown cause by personal problems or the stress of society cause them to cringe as though they've seen an ugly creature emerge? We all like to think that the world is fine and there are no problems. So maybe contrast to the illusion is best answered by suppression and ridicule. As if our position on any problem that arises these days is, "If it ain't me, I don't care. Don't ask me for help. You F***ed yourself".

Do I really need to explain myself when I sing a song out loud to myself to a stranger or co-worker? I can't even hum without getting asked a question about my mental health. I can't be happy or sad or angry or...anything. The only emotion people can actually handle is what I call "Robotic correctional output" (Just made it up). Basically the only thing with this emotion is that everything must be said in a polite but unstimulated fashion neither influenced by emotion or situation. The same answer to the same question for the same outcome. If the answer does not follow those protocalls, you look foolish and stupid.

I'm not saying emotions are being phased out and being replaced by emotionless people...bu you got to think about how response to emotions these days is either medication or destruction.

Yeah I know my rant seems random but I think the problem is too complex to be explain shortly and i'm not willing to try either.
As always...f*** the haters and everyone else post your commits except for haters to whom I say, "Why did you bother with this? You could've gone outside, looked up porn or hell went to try to get laid. By effectively wasting 15 mins of your pathetic life...I WIN!". Urinatingtree - Original sayer.

Lincoln Park aren't an emo band. Their Nu Metal. 😛 (I know, I'm a big fan of them). It's stuff like "Bullet for my Valentine", "My Chemical Romance" and "Funeral for a Friend". which they like. >_<

But I don't believe there's such thing as emo anymore? And if there is such a term, it's just a fad. Traditional 'Emo' were people who actually cried and got genuinely depressed and/or suicidal...I don't see that anymore. :umm:
Every person I see who looks like an emo (extreme hair dyed purple, blue etc. and striped shirts etc.) are always so happy anc cheerful. Right, I know 'Emo' stands for emotion and Happiness is an emotion, but I thought the emo's were meant to be 'self-pitying'. >_>

Meh, I'll end there before I go on a rant. But yeah, I agree. 🙂

In my experience the definition of "emo" has shifted from its origins into something more or less popular. Emo is no longer used to describe people who actually get depressed, but instead used for kids (a word I use because it seems to be mostly a high school plague) that whine and claim that "no one understands them" all in hopes of wrenching a little bit of attention from those around them in the easiest possible way. Emo meant something back in the day, but now it's a different beast.

Some people are better at controlling their emotions than others, while those that cannot vent it in some external fashion that is at least subconciously commited to getting attention from others by triggering sympathy, pity, or just plain curiousity or bewilderment. Some people take it a step further and turn the ability to do this or take advantage of this, into an artform, more or less.

The reason people find this annoying is because these attempts are usually passive agressive in nature, meaning that the person seeking attention is neither asking for it, but in some way expects it through the fact that they stand out. Because people cannot read their minds, dressing up is necessary, and thats where the emo fashion comes in. If it wasn't for that, we would all just assume theres nothing wrong, since nothing about their state of mind would be apparent. In that sense they'd blend in with everyone else, which, in an ironic way, is what they want deep inside. They just want to belong, but they usually fall short and must form cliques with similar-minded people in order to achieve that. Whether they get the help they want or need from people that are just like them (other emos for example), is a toss up, since if emos are similar enough that they feel they share the same problems, they may also be inadequate to one another in that they may lack a necessary strength or virtue, in that time or moment, to help one another, whereas someone who is not one of them might find it easier to give them advice since they are presumably not plagued by the same problem or at least not in the same way. An example would be an alcoholic recovery group or club. Everyone there is an alcoholic. While the moral support of fellow drunkards seeking help can help, the fact is they're all alcoholics and are in the same boat suffering from the same problem. It's the teachers, councelors, coaches, doctors, etc, that are the ones helping them. This is just an example, I'm not comparing people deep into emo to alcoholics, only in that they are in the same boat together and supposedly afflicted with the same problems. They're either embracing the fact they have problems together or expressing them to everyone else together.

I'm, of course, talking about emos and goths who are being elaborate with it all. Emos and goths who have themselves together (mentally and self-esteem) and can operate freely without so much as an inclination to take advantage of the theme or style, or whatever you want to call it, are fine. For them we know its aesthetic and superficial, but for the ones who are seriously into it that that they would define the stigmas of what people in general and in this day and age believe these things to be, they are the ones who are going to incur society's ridicule....which sucks because that gives them all a bad name, not just these groups.
