To Those Who Post Jokes in the General Discussion Forum (please read)

A while back a decision was made to allow jokes to be posted in the General Discussion forum instead of the silly forum, because within the silly forum they were rarely read, and were often buried to the 2nd page within minutes from all the other posting activity taking place there.

But lately, the jokes have taken over the General Discussion forum, causing actual discussion threads to fall off the map before most even know of their existance. I'd hate to see it come down to jokes being delegated to the silly forum again, because of what I stated above, but if the current trend keeps up, we're not going to have a choice.

By no means am I asking any of you to stop posting jokes....I'm merely asking that we perhaps cut back a little, and try to stick with posting only those REALLY GOOD ones that everyones GOTTA see. That way we can keep jokes in the General Discussion forum, and not completely defeat the whole purpose of this subforum.

One suggestion would be, for those of you having a good time with the flush of blonde jokes, to start a single thread titled "The Blonde Joke Thread"...then you can all communally post to it, read the jokes within it, and continue to have your fun without hurting the other discussion threads in this subforum.

Can I get all your support on this? I'm merely asking as a last ditch effort to keep them here in the GD forum where they can be appreciated. I hope you all can agree with me that it's a cause worth stepping back a little for!

Indeed. If everyone who came to GenDis posted the two or three jokes they receive in their inbox every day, there'd be nothing but recycled jokes here. A "Jokes" forum could really be a subsection of "Silly Stuff," IMO.

It could also be a subforum of General Discussion. I don't visit Silly Stuff, but I would visit a Humor subforum. I think they are two different things.

I also like Illtcklu's suggestion of a single joke thread in General Discussion, but I also admit that I like being able to read the topic of the joke in the thread title.

Yup yup jokes are good for the soul, they deserve a place somewhere here on the TMF.

And let me add that I'm guilty as HELL for not going beyond the first page on any of the forums. Lots of good stuff floats away in the dark.

I mildly support a joke forum, but I would miss seeing jokes in GenDis.

I like the idea of having a "joke" or "humor" thread. I believe you already know I enjoy posting humor -- yes, I've been very naughty -- but I will offer my support in any way that will help. And if that means going through joke withdrawal...well...guess I'll get myself into a program and go on the wagon for a while (heavy, heavy sigh!).

To me, jokes are the primary reason I check out the GD forum.

Personally, I disagree with a single thread for jokes. If you want to read the latest jokes you have to plow through all the comments. This was tried on another tickling web site, and IMO it hasn't worked very well.

As for posting only those jokes which you feel are truly funny... humor is about the most subjective thing I can think of. Some of my favorite jokes have received little notice, whereas some of them I wasn't that crazy about received a lot of attention and positive comments.

If you feel the jokes need to be segregated, I suggest you either put them in their own sub-forum or relegate them to the Silly Post section.

I have to agree my friend....If not for the humor I would never go to gen dis...

That is why the silly forum was created in the first place....so that jokes and discussion could go unhindered by the extremely long goofy threads.....

(which DO have their merits)

Well I think I mentioned something along these lines (too many jokes in the General Discussion) on another thread.
I too have seen good wishes for new parents, threads about asking for advice etc... pushed way down on the list for jokes that often though funny had either been posted before or several jokes that could have been combined on the same thread.
I know Ive posted 1 joke recently...(I thought was funny) but I try not to post more than 1 joke every couple of days.
I agree with Mimi that way too many jokes sometimes dominate the GD.
But we should be able to moderate the ammount ourselfs....police ourselves..after all we are all adults.
If you go into the GD and see out of 15 threads on the first screen and 5 of them are jokes...wait a few hours or day before posting another. Or if it is that freakin funny and you have to share it....PM it to a few of your freinds, or do it in the silly stuff and direct your friends there.
I dont want to see jokes vanish from the GD...but I wouldn't be upset if there weren't as many on a day to day basis.

But unfortunately some insist on biting the hand that feeds them, so we may have no other option if no one wants to help with easing the problem to prevent that from happening.

No problem Mimi. I really think that most people will gripe and moan a little, but we are all adults, and thus will understand where your comming from.
I for one know how hard it is to be the one to "bring it up" and not try to seem like you or the other MODS are being "uppity".
Its a fine line you all have to walk, and I for one think you brought this subject up with tact, keeping names out and above all being fair.

my freind...I dont think thats what she means..I was only giving a personal example. I really dont know what the solution is or should be.
I was meerly voiceing support for what Mimi is trying to get across. I dont want to ruffle any feathers (unless there are a nice pair of women's feet around them) or create any ill will amongst my TMF brethren.
I think she wants us to look before we post and notice how many jokes are already in circulation before we fill the entire GD with jokes.
Like I said my freind, I love the jokes and I have posted several, but there are times Ive wanted to post a joke...but refrained because I thought there were to many.
Again Ven, I dont want to seem like Im being one way...or being a prick about anything. I just see that at times (especially lately) there are a few too many jokes.
And also I dont want anyone to think Im kissing up to the MODS. I just really do agree with them on this.
I hope this doesnt cause a rift between anyone.

There are always periods where jokes dominate here...other times birthday threads other times personal crisis threads....

If we are to cater to a particular type in order to keep in on the front page that is fine with me....I have no problem with posting humor elsewhere.....

We did however create the silly forum in order to allow the jokes and humor to flourish here in this section as I recall...now that it is we are losing(?) general topics of discussion?....Perhaps....But people respond to posts they like and have an interest in....not just because they are on page one....lol...

I know we have a Silly stuff and people dont venture everywhere in the forum.
Until my recent "Robaceini" thread in the Silly Stuff I rarely went there, and the few times I did I always seemed out of place with all the others that post there, usually anything I contirbuted got glanced over. But I found with time to get my own little niche and I actually enjoy it now.
Maybe it would be a good time for everyone to participate in all the forum has to offer..not just one or two areas.
But thats just me.....and we all know how warped I am.

I agree....I post in several sections...The only reason that those who post jokes avoid the silly forum is the exact same reason that this discussion has come about here....

Post a joke or flash of interest in that area and it drops 4 pages in a couple of hours because of the 200+ page threads that dominate there....

If you were not constantly responding to your thread there it would die in a couple of days...that is the nature of that area and why many do not like to post there....

It was the humor forum before it got over run by nonsense.....that is why it was changed and all of the silly threads were moved there.....

No biggie....just a matter of preference.... It matters very little in the big picture of things and what will be will be.... 😉

I do understand what you are saying Mimi!!! ANYTHING in excess is not a good thing..............I do believe that threads for thought and disscusion should not be bumped back for 29 jokes...........................(28 fine)! hehehe The forum should be fun, flirty, and all around enjoyable for everyone, or why bother to come on???!!!!! Jokes are not everyones cup of tea (been talking to HT too long) so I don't think the forum should be overun by them, however I don't want to see them disappear either!!!! I think the fact there were so many jokes last weekend was just a fluke!
