As we baseball fans know, today is the final game of the year for twenty two of the thirty major league teams, including my Braves. The Braves, in spite of their very disappointing ending to the season, had a much better year in 2009 than they did in 2008, as their win total will improve by fourteen or fifteen games, depending on the outcome of today's regular season finale.
The good news for the Braves is, that, except for the decision of whether to exercise the option on Tim Hudson's contract for next year, the core of the team should remain in tact for 2010, which, as baseball fans know, will be Bobby Cox's last year as manager of the team.
Sometime between four and five pm eastern today, barring a rain delay, the last pitch of the Braves season will be made, and then that's it for them, and twenty one other teams, until next April.
Farewell, 2009 Braves, and congratulations to them on their much improved year. Next year, hopefully, in Bobby Cox's last season, the Braves will extend their season, with their first trip to the playoffs in five years.
Are any other fans of teams not going to the postseason feeling sad today, knowing that we won't see our teams until next April?
Mitch
