Tomorrow morning.. at 129am Svalbard Norway time, the sun will rise, after having been down for just an hour, and will not set again for four months, until August 23rd.
I've always found the Midnight Sun fascinating.
However, according to the wikipedia..
True "Midnight Sun".. is only when there is 24 hours of daylight in a place for any length of time. and not... for example, what happens in Fairbanks, Alaska, on the Summer Solstice, where the sun sets after midnight, due to Daylight Saving Time, and is down for a couple of hours.
Barrow, Alaska, one of the northernmost points in the U.S., also experiences the wikipedia's true definition of
"Midnight Sun"
From May 11 or 12 to about August 1.
I would find it interesting to take a trip to see the Midnight Sun,.
Have any forum members ever seen or experienced it?
