With baseball's second half having already started, it will be interesting to see what deals are made by teams to bolster themselves before the trade deadline on July 31.
I have heard rumors of the Mets getting another starting pitcher, and perhaps another hitter. My Braves, if they dont fall completely out of wild card contention after this upcoming trip, are in desperate need of bullpen help. The Yankees always need pitching.
Although the Mets GM has denied that such a deal is even in the talking stages, I have read rumors on both the Mets, and Braves, websites, which muse about the idea of Braves pitcher John Smoltz being traded to the Mets. New York could probably use another starting pitcher for the playoffs, but it would seem that unless the Mets could give Atlanta a major package of players, that the Braves just wont give away their best pitcher. Although Atlanta has had a poor season this year, and may well not make the playoffs, with Mike Hampton returning next year, and his capability of winning 15 games at least if healthy, the Braves would have a pretty solid big three in Smoltz, Hudson, and Hampton for next year. It wouldnt seem they would break that up, unless someone offered them an incredible deal for Smoltz, or maybe Hudson.
So, what do people think might happen over the next two weeks in terms of trades? Let's talk about it.
