Trade Deadline Deals

But considering Kazmir is a 22 year old star, ( not 23 like you said so you were WRONG ) that is the kind of leak that gets out. I mean I heard about Aubrey Huff possible being traded before he was traded yet not Kazmir. Funny that the Kazmir trade has leaked to you and not to ESPN. I wonder why??? So the media doesn't know that Kazmir is being traded and you out the in Texas know what is going on in Tampa, Florida. I am a New Yorker and I know when the Bull has gone to the bathroom and I believe that he just did in Texas. It is that SIMPLE!!!

how many arguments have you had with your doorknob?

If you had any idea over the years of how many BLOCKBUSTER trade scenarios were discussed but never made it to the media; your head would swim! I can`t help it that I have a few contacts in the know, and you obviously don`t. That falls under NOT MY PROBLEM.

It is obvious that being such a Cowboys hater , you will argue with anyone that is a Cowboys fan.

I really don't see the need to get another pitcher for the Mets. I mean Duke pitched well today and Maine even better last night(I was at the game) 😎 I want Willis and would trade a Milledge to get him. Not for Zito. The Mets I think are fine with Pedro, Tommy G, Duke, Trax, Maine and Pelfrey

My condolenses that you are a Cowgirl fan. Fact is I am old enough to remember alot of Blockbuster trades. Like the Tom Seaver trade to the Reds. The Nolan Ryan trade to the Angels ( you were probably still having your diapers changed when that trade went down. ) So don't tell me blockbuster trades. Fact is, you are there in Texas and you know more than the media. Let me inquire how mighty one who is involved in the trade???

I said blockbuster trade scenarios; not blockbuster trades. It might help if you would pay attention.

Oh!!! So they are creating a scenario to trade Scott Kazmir. I understand. So where is this scenerio got Kazmir going? I know one thing, he won't be traded whether figment(as you are making it up as) or reality. The reason is because he is cheap right now. Tampa Bay is looking to get alot of bang for it's buck. They draw more in attendance when Kazmir pitches because they have a shot at winning. So you can set up the scenerio that makes your head swim and I will stick with facts. He will not be traded this trade deadline. Regardless of who your sources ( I am sure it is Jerry Jones's group ) are there in Texas.

Why are you such a Cowboy hater? Everything always comes back to that for you. And what does Jerry Jones' group have to do with baseball. The Jets losing all these years has really made you cranky! hahahahahahaha

And why are you such a baby in general discussion??? Why are you so cranky out there??? If you can't handle being on an adult forum ( which obviously you can't ) then you should be somewhere else. Am I a Cowgirl hater??? According to you everyone is a Cowgirl fan.

So where is Kazmir going to be traded to??? You still haven't answered that one question of mine. :sowrong:

I guess I can't hate the Dallas Cowboys too much. In fact, they hurt very little when I wipe my ass with them.

now that hurts, Knox

but that's okay, when the Boys beat the hell out of the Skinless (as usual)
maybe the feelings will change 🙂

Braves just traded young third baseman Wilson Bettimit to Tampa for reliever Denny Baez and another player. There had been rumors earlier in the season about Baez coming to Atlanta as a closer, and now he will serve as a setup man for closer Bob Wickman.
Another extremely interesting rumor also appeared on the Braves website. Apparently, members of Braves upper management, with $3 million to spend for the rest of the year after acquiring Mr Baez, have been talking to Braves GM John Scherholtz, about reacquiring Greg Maddux, who is owed 2.6 million for the rest of 2006. Maddux has pitched horribly lately, and is 40 years old. However, to be reunited with Bobby Cox, on a team that is hopefully contending for a playoff spot, and needs pitching, would be a shrewd move. With Greg's years of playoff experience, he would be a great guy to have around for a wild card run, and potential playoff series. I hope they do this.
So, Atlanta is making some good moves, now hopefully, they can win some games, and get further up in the wild card race.

Mitch with all due respect, part of the problem with the Braves is that they don't have Leo Mazzone. Bring Greg Maddux back to Atlanta might only serve Maddux 4.83 ERA a good service. Without young healthy guns, I am not sure Maddux will actually help the Braves. Also, I am a bit surprised that the Braves traded Bettimit because Chipper Jones was injuried in tonight's game. Just a bit surprising to me, I guess.

I agree with you about Leo Mazzone. Roger Mcdowell is a pathetic pitching coach, and should be fired. If Atlanta had any pitching at all, they would be leading the division by 13 games instead of trailing by 13, with as much as theyve hit this year.
The Braves cant afford him, but I read on the MLB website that the Yankees have Jaret Wright on the trading block. Granted, the Braves let him walk once, but Wright is younger than Maddux, and could help them for longer.
Hopefully, Chipper's injury wont be too bad. Yes, Betimit would have helped Atlanta if Chipper was out for a long period of time. I guess the Braves felt they wanted to strengthen their pen. With getting Wickman and Baez, they have done so, and, with Baez, might well have their closer for next year, when Wickman leaves, as John S said he will. Baez is signed through next year.
I dont know what else is left out there, but I think the Braves need another starting pitcher. Their hitting seems okay if Chipper isnt out for long, and they have greatly strengthened their pen this week, but, beyond Smoltz, Hudson, Ramirez, and this new kid Chuck James, they seem to be one short in the rotation. I'm not saying Maddux is the answer, because as you pointed out, he's old, and has a high ERA. Were I the Braves, I would make one more deal before July 31 to get themselves one more starting pitcher, to hopefully turn things around, and make a playoff push.

Mitch

ESPN is reporting that the Yankees and Phillies have reached a tentative deal to send RF Bobby Abreu and pitcher Cory Lidle to New York. The Yanks will send a pair of prospects and Matt Smith to Philadelphia. The MLB trade deadline is set for 4:00 p.m. Monday

I love this trade as a Mets fan, get Abreu out of the NL East. but the yankees need pitching so why did they up-grade the line up?

At the trade deadline, 4pm ET today, Greg Maddux has been traded from the Cubs to the Dodgers. Milagros should be happy about this. Greg has been pitching fairly well lately, and with LA five games out of the wild card with two months left, it is a good pickup for them if he can win several games. I'm sorry he didnt go back to the Braves, but this in my view is a good deal.

Mitch

I am glad that the Dodgers acquired Maddux. I hope it will be enough.

BTW, the Dodgers are just as close to the NL West lead (5 games out) as they are to the Wild Card lead. In other words, they have to either catch the Reds to lead the Wild Card race or catch the SD Pondscum to lead the NL West, both teams being 5 games in front of them today.

The Braves didnt do anything at the trade deadline. According to Atlanta Braves.com, GM John Scherholtz was said to have talked to the Cardinals and Red Sox about possible blockbuster deals for both Andruw Jones and John Smoltz. Supposedly, those were just feelers, and nothing substanial came of it.
Now, with the waiver deadline on August 31, Scherholtz said it is possible he could land another starting pitcher, but whoever he would get would have to pass through waivers without being blocked by a contender. This would seem unlikely, so it looks like the Braves will have to make due with what they have, hope they can get hot again, and do it with their current roster. If not, their playoff run will be over.

i feel bad for Xavier Nady. traded from one of the best teams in baseball to one of the worst. i know it was nescasarry but i cant help but feel he got the short end of the stick. his not being around wont hurt the lineup b.c. we have Endy and Lastings and we rele needed the pitching. nonetheless i will still miss the X-Man. its sad that he wasnt even here long enuff for us to give that nickname a workout *sigh*. o well... Hakuna Matata. i hope he gets alot of playin time over there. someone should find that cab driver and hang his ass up from a Shea flagpole. if not for that accident this whole situation could have been avoided. im just glad it happened b4 the deadline so we could do somethong about it.

Again , you couldn`t be more wrong. Tampa Bay has in the past tried to drum up trade offers.
So who is wrong Flock??? Where did Kazmir go??? Or was that another imaginary blockbuster trade you and your scouts friends made up??? Like I said before Kazmir was going nowhere. Fact is, I know more about sports accidently than you will ever know on purpose Flock. Take that for what it is worth. I knew Kazmir was going NOWHERE. But ,of course, you tell me in this quote " You couldn't be more wrong." Well Flock, how wrong was I??? :wowzer:

That is not the point!!! Flock said that Kazmir was on the trading block. NOBODY but him heard this rumor. Media knew nothing. Organizations knew nothing of the sort. But Flock said his scouts knew that Kazmir was on the trading block. But did Kazmir go anywhere??? Well maybe he went to the bathroom but that is his business but he was not traded. But Flock insisted that I was wrong and that Kazmir was going to be traded. But it NEVER happened because he wasn't out there to be traded for. Oswalt and Clemens were on the trading block but not Kazmir.

i wasnt disagreeing with you, i was just saying that he should still be in new york. i kno Flock didnt kno what he was talkin bout. no way would the Rays be stupid enuff to trade him like the mets did.

I havent been back to this thread for a bit, so I forgot to answer Angel's question. Sorry, I'll do that now.
You asked if I could see the Braves beating the Mets in the NLCS. My answer to that is maybe. First, they would have to get there. The Mets would also have home field advantage, which could well help their cause against Atlanta in the seven game series. Despite Atlanta's wins the last two nights, they have a huge wild card field to beat out. Second, they havent gotten out of the first round since 2001, and have only one time since 2000, so, they would have to get by either the West or Central Division champ to win the right to play the Mets. In the past several years, they have bad history with all possible playoff teams they could play in the first round, including St Louis, San Diego, and such. I could well see Atlanta squeaking into the wild card, and going down in the first round, as they have the last four years. I would hope they could win the first round. The first objective is to, of course, get to the first round, and then, after that, hopefully win it.

Sounds to me like my dear friend Flockhead was listening to Sports Radio down there in Dallas...and since the media apparatus down in Dallas has always thought that THEY themselves are far more important than the team -ANY team- that theirs is the final word of authority. Not surprising. That's what they really want you to think, anyway. Generating buzz generates revenue.

There are too many fans out there who pay too much attention to what sports analysts and pundits and blowhards say; it's like, "are you gonna believe me or your lying eyes?" It's like, they're not thinking anymore, they're parroting what they're hearing on the radio or TV.

The LosAngelesization of America.

It is funny how we only see Flock on other threads and not this one after I proved that he was wrong. :xpeepsofa
