.....we just had a very interesting documentary by a history proffessor called Niall Fergusen who lives stateside. It was called "American Colossus". Has it been seen stateside yet? I think you would find it very intertesting. He advocates "neuking" China in the sixties and says that massive foreign debt and too many old folks will bring the end of the "American Empire".He thinks that the U.S. have failed to kick foreign butt hard enough in the past when they had the chance.

Rather contraversial, but very well argued. Look out for it.

I Will..

And I agree. We should have kicked ass far earlier than now. My belief is the late 50s.

Also, foreign aid is killing us! As are the old people.

I'm not sure we should have nuked China... I've never really considered them a threat. I'm hoping this show makes it over here!

Wait....we nuked china. I though we only did that to Japan!? I guess im ignorant about this.

Psycho

Dear oh dear...........

.......do try and keep up psycho! he "advocated" it. That does not mean it happened.....dont know why I bother sometimes.

I Am Curious..

Why does he advocate the US nuking China a couple decades back? I've thought this through and I see no benefit for the USA or anyone else, except maybe the Soviet Union. Overall the Chinese haven't been all that aggressive of a society and even today their military is more of a defense force, vice a power projection force.

I guess the guy was just a typical Republican voter. 😀

Ferguson Is A Brit..

And I've heard Democrats and liberals advocate the same thing, but I've never seen why or what the benefit would be.

Tron

As I said Darth, tongue in cheek...

There was no legitimate benefit from invading Iraq, but we still did it Mike. I don't think world governments would use nukes to protract a war in the same way they did a conventional one though. Wheras the conventional one has many benefits for certain personages, the nuclear alternative is a tadge more difficult to stop fucking the entire world up. Maybe in two thousand years when we've got a few other systems colonised, but not before.

WE..

Had plenty of legitimate business in invading Iraq. So long as one terrorist provides threat to the US we have every right to take any country apart to get that same terrorist.
The alternative. Turn the guy over. Then we tend to stay away.

No Legitimate Reason for Invading Iraq?

I can think of about 2 million legitimate reasons for (INVADING...geeeeez! FREEEEEING) Iraq....2 million barrels of some of the sweetest crude oil pumped into your economy daily. Jim, do you own a car or ride a bike? Of course it goes without weapons of mass destruction (genocide gassing of the Kurds) and a safe haven for arming terrorists. But, whether or not you believe what we are doing is for the greater good....I LOVE that oil pumping! So does our economy. So if you aren't a humanitarian, or believe in the security of the free world against terror, at the very LEAST believe every material possession you own can be directly or indirectly attributed to oil. Until we develop a sound renewable resource, say thank you to Reagan, Bush, and W. for a solid world wide economy. Isn't oil great? LOL! Holy SH*T! I'M AGREEING WITH TRON! SAVE ME BIG JIM! LOL!

Well goddamn if where gettin so much oil why is the gas prices constantly going up here. We reached $2.33 on the gallon today.

Tommorow's gas sign.

Hmm...

Just figuring out the price of a gallon of 7-11 coffee. Dammit...I think Columbia may just need some liberating. Stuff is almost $5 a gallon, even for friggin decaf!

As for nuking China...why bother? Conventional weapons would take out their (and I'm using the term QUITE loosely here) military-industrial capability in short order. Of course, that's using our 2004 airforce rather than the ones from the decade you're discussing. I think we've actually made warfare obsolete until someone can actually find a way to check that facet of our military. What kind of effective resistance can a country mount when you can't maintain supply lines, move troops or protect your infrastructure in order to produce munitions?

*Back to sipping coffee*

Do you think we should have gone in and killed every single member of the IRA then? Do you think Britain could've done that without every Irish-American in existence demanding the PM's head on a platter and his nuts with the side-salad? Because make no mistake about it, the SAS could've reduced the membership of the PIRA to single figures in less than seven days, if they'd been given the order. No more nail bombs planted by heroic freedom fighters in shopping malls, where 99% of the passers-by were mothers and children.

Sorry Jimbo, you're beyond saving! 😀 Besides which, why shouldn't you agree with Tron? You're pretty much out of the same mould, politically speaking.

Terrorists... There were and are more in Saudi Arabia than Afghanistan and Iraq put together. Also why say we were attacking the terrs when we slaughtered hundreds of thousands of civillians? and is something as petty as "economy" worth the lives of innocents? Innocents who really don't give a shit about what Americans do with their lives so long as they can get on with theirs in peace? I don't believe it is, nor do I condone unilateralism, which I regard as pure selfishness to the point of genocide in some cases.

Project TWAT did nothing for world security, apart from destabilise what there was of it, and kill civillians by the hundred thousand. Most of the Iraqi armed forces didn't move at all because their generals had been bribed to stay put if they wanted to be in at the top afterwards (including their entre air force, such as it was) and most bombs were dropped on entirely civillian areas with no military objective in sight. There were also flagrant and numerous breaches of the Geneva and Hague Conventions.

As for the gasses Maddass used on the Kurds, didn't stop us being his best mate during the 80's did it? And what was the likeliehood of it getting anywhere remotely near us? And why did we even invade Iraq when the Saudi's are the fuckers who deserve a healthy dose of righteous justice from the all-moral West; not to mention the Kuwaities? Sorry mate, but this war is pure opportunism, with the objectives and the identity of this week's bad guys at the whim of the people who pull the world's strings.
