Okay Natural. PAY THE HELL ATTENTION THIS TIME!
The year to date: 13/19
I'm going to go over the easy pics quickly because I'm REALLY looking forward to the main event. 😀
Frankie Edgar vs. Sean Sherk
Sherk's huge by comparison and has beaten better grapplers. It's pretty academic.
My Call: Sherk by Decision
Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra
Serra beating GSP was a fluke. Hughes has fought better BJJ guys and squashed them. Again, academic.
My Call: Hughes by Decision
Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida
Um, ouch. This can be boiled down to one question; who's undefeated record do you think will end on Saturday?
Do I think Rashad Evans is the guy to put that first blotch on Machida's record? No. Evans is a great boxer and wrestler, but Machida has found this style that counters everything that boxing and wrestling hold dear. Machida has solid striking and a solid ground game. He has all the tools he needs to put away a guy like Evans.
Now, that being said, do I think Lyoto Machida is the guy to put the first blotch on Evans' record? Again, no. Machida has never faced a fighter of the caliber of Evans. Thiago Silva's chin was suspect before Machida fought him and he's the closest you'll get. Evans has the best standup and the best wrestling Machida has seen. On top of that, Evans is very quick striking and that coupled with his one-punch KO power might be enough to take out Machida. Plus, if anyone can put together a plan to take down a guy like Machida, it's Greg Jackson.
I want Evans to win. He's grown a lot since TUF 2. More to the point, he always puts on a show. Machida, let's face it, has had some really, REALLY boring fights. As much as I hate to say it, Evans is tough enough that he probably won't go down, which means Machida's throw three punches and run away strategy might work. *sigh*
My Call: Machida by Decision
See you Saturday!
