Anybody else catch UFC53 this past saturday? Any thoughts?? Anybody?

I think you and I are the only MMA fans on this board bass. I didn't catch it but I read the results and peoples opinions.

Arlovski absolutely burtalized eilers, which is what everyone thought was going to happen.

Diaz should be getting a title shot since he's danced around at the pre lims enough.

Thats about all I can comment on.

Nope, I like MMA, too. Just don't feel like payin around 30-something bucks for just watchin it on tv. Now, live on the other hand, I'd pay that much...almost got to go to one UFC when it was in town (I used to live in Bay St Louis, MS...don't alot of the Toughman fights take place there?...), but I was only 15 or 16 at the time...and I think they only let 18yrs old and up in(I'm not sure, though....been awhile )

Hell, I wouldn't have even minded participating in one....except my martial arts instructor didn't teach us full-contact fighting, and barely any grappling-- it was Shotokan and not judo or jujutsu--...and I can barely get the mouth guard in without gagging ...so that isn't gonna happen anytime soon, if at all lol

I caught this fight on spike tv where ken shamrock came back from an injury and lost. He was so rusty, he coudlnt keep his feet on the mat and he kept slipping which left him open for an attack.

Man, those were good fights. I love MMA and I cant wait for Jermey Horn and Chuck Liddel that is gonna be a hell of a fight. But I am still wait for Wanderli I think thats how you spell it, to step up to the challenge. Chuck went over there to pride and represented. He fucked up Carlos Newton, but the got his ass handed to him. I am a big Ice Man fan. I am from Huntington Beach and I have met Tito Ortiz, but I think he is a bitch for running his mouth all the time then getting lit up. I mean ran fir mouth to Randy and what happens Randy takes him down 13 times and that what the first time Ortiz has been taking down. I wanted Randy to win cause he would have pretty much beaten everyone in the UFC the only top dog left would be Wanderli in Pride and Randy could have beaten him and retired on top. But oh well for you guys in to MMA check out my buddy;s magizne its Bodyguard.com its a MMA mag its pretty good. Also IF your in Southern California at Saboulba Casino think thats how its spelled. I am tipsy right now. King of the Cage fights this sunday. Ill be there check them out

ok well first of all im glad to see that there are more MMA fans in here than just me and cav.. mma is a great sport

my thoughts on all the fights at 53...

buentello v jordan - i walked in while this one was already started, but in time to see buentello submit jordan from the top with what looked like a forearm choke.. strange that it came from the top though, and jordan appeared to be unconscious after the fight.. buentello continues to perform

quarry v carter - shonie carter had to have been seriously drunk off of whatever he was sippin on out of his 'pimp cup' because he took quarry way to lightly... thats why he got KTFO in the first round.. i think shonie needs to stop and save the few brain cells he has remaining.. quarry is going to make a run at rich franklin eventually..

loiseau v mccarthy - what can i say about loiseau?? his last fight i saw him in he showed nothing but laziness and repetition.. he would wait to throw his elbow (he throws them like punches) and thats about it... this fight, he finishes charles mccarthy with a spinning kick to the ribs, followed by a flying knee in the face and two blows to the head... all in like 3 seconds... 'the crow' definately showed us what he can do..

diaz v oishi - first of all, oishi has probably the worst fighting style and tactics that i have ever seen, and second he looked like he was on heroin the entire time... i dont know if that was supposed to be a serious fight or a joke, but diaz destroyed him.. i see good things for diaz... i see a title shot at matt hughes coming up for him, but i dont know if he can overcome hughes sheer strength and power.. hughes isnt unbeatable.. but i dont know if diaz is the one to do it.. (diaz KO over lawler was SLICK tho)

parisyan v serra - matt serra showed that he was more heavyhanded than relying on his GRACIE JIU JITSU SKILLS... the guy trains under renzo gracie and there wasnt one submission attempt the entire fight... just hard overhands... he got out of a bunch of parisyans submissions... but overall i was disappointed.. especially with all the shit serra talks..

griffin v mahood - griffin came out in his official UFC debut just as i expected he would... he is a first round finisher... mahood had experience and strength over griffin, but griffin clearly wanted it more and ended up winning with a rear naked choke in the first round... good deal for griffin

tanner v franklin - what could possibly be said about this fight? rich franklin is the future of 185lb fighters.. he is on top of his game and its going to take a beast to stop his roll.. i respect tanner as a fighter much more after seeing this fight tho, that man has a lot of heart and the spirit of a warrior to continue on as long as he did (if u havent seen pics of his face after the fight, look for them) rich franklin is going to hold the title for some time... how long is up in the air

arlovski v eilers - i dont know how the UFC seriously thought that eilers could contend with arlovski... i dont think frank mir can even contend with arlovski when the time comes... eilers didnt even touch him the entire fight... eilers would get two shots in the face for every shot that he would even throw.. i think the UFC has finally found a solid heavyweight champion..

*****************************

now as far as what was said about the last ken shamrock fight... shamrock made the mistake of trying to expand on his game and use tactics he usually doesnt/has never used.. i mean seriously.. ken shamrock throwing a high leg kick at someones head??? shamrock used to just take you down and beat the f**k out of you.. once he threw it and slipped due to the block.. it was over from there.. he must have taken like 10 shots in the face from franklin..

if he hadnt slipped i think he couldve had a chance, but he was trying to do too many things instead of just fighting.. he will be back in the future.. i see at least one more W under his belt before retirement...

******************************

please post thoughts/comments all this stuff... MMA has become my obsession over the past couple years and i could talk/debate about this stuff forever... expect a thread coming soon with UFC54 predictions because the card has been pretty much filled....

HORN V LIDDELL
COUTURE V VAN ARSDALE
TRIGG V ST PIERRE
SANCHEZ V STRASSER
RIGGS V LINDLAND

and a few more... those will all be exciting fights tho...

and btw... horn is going to be handing chuck liddell his face on a silver platter :manicd:

Anyone see the Shamrock vs Ortiz fight?

I normally like watching the lightweights and middleweights but that was something else. It was the old guard versus the new breed and even though Ortiz won Shamrock showed incredible fighting spirit. I train in martial arts and can watch MMA with a more critical eye but the beating Shamrock took would have had me tapping out in round one.

Who are people's fave MMA fighters? I don't get to see as many events as I would like but my faves to watch are Jens Pulver, Kaoru Uno and especially Genki Sudo and Norifumi Yamamoto for their crazy antics.

I suppose Kid Yamamato, Crocop and Fedor for being the dominant fighter the history of this sport.

i cant say i really have a "favorite" mma fighter... but i have a list of those that i enjoy watching..

jeremy horn, matt hughes, georges st pierre, rich franklin, tito ortiz (RIP his UFC contract), david loiseau, nick diaz, robbie lawler, andre arlovski, ivan salavery.. the list goes on..

i also like alot of fighters but have things i dont like about their style..

randy couture - i understand hes a greco-roman wrestler, and he has incredibly persistant and devastating ground and pound, but he never/very rarely does anything except clinch, dirty boxing, and then gnp.. its very effective yes but not when its going on for 5 5 minute rounds (couture vs ortiz)

matt lindland - asside from his extremely goofy apperance (IMO), he also relies far too much on the clinch and dirty boxing.. he trains on team quest with couture so its understandable.. hes also a little unorthodox, not that being unorthodox is a bad thing, but he seems a little too careless at times..

vitor belfort - after vitor 'found god' he hasnt really been able to do anything.. his lightning hands arent around very much anymore... he had a brutal knockout over marvin eastman, one of the worst cuts ive seen.. but now he is either too confident or just WAY THE HELL OUT THERE

in response to suikoden.. i saw the ortiz vs shamrock fight.. but before i can comment i need to know if ur talking frank or ken... cuz they both had a nice run-in with ortiz..

I F*CKING LOVE THIS SPORT

im assuming ur talking about me.. and yes i have seen pride but not as frequently as i have seen the ufc.. ive also watched plenty of ifc and kotc.. i enjoy them all just as much as the other.. they are all mma competitions..

i guess the fact that the fighters i listed dont have pride fighting championship under their belt that has some sort of degrading meaning toward me as a fan of mma.. i know gomi and sakurabai and rampage and silva and cro cop and fedor and all those other cats..

baroni, pulver, coleman, and yves edwards all were victorious in bushido 7 this past month.. silva is fighting again soon.. apparently chuck liddell and wanderlei silva are going to fight in the october time period.. baroni is fighting ryo chonan in bushido 8.. pedro rizzo is having his pride debut coming up also.. other fights u may not know about... bj penn is fighting a gracie soon.. frank shamrock is fighting cesar gracie finally in october.. robbie lawler and niko vitale are fighting very soon in superbrawl.. ivan salavery v nathan marquardt august 6th with a bunch of 'the ultimate fighter' competitors goin at it.. bonnar v hogar (who is training with miletich by the way), chris leben is fighting patrick cote, josh koscheck, kenny florian, alex karalexis, mike swick, nate quarry, and possibly deigo sanchez are all fighting also..

so in conclusion.. i hope you see how i am an avid fan of mixed martial arts.. and dont assume things.. im not tryin to be an ass.. i just didnt expect such a blunt response to my choice of top fighters in the sport.. so.. its all good and all that.. i just had to get all that out.. and im a little drunk :couch:
