For the past year or so, chicken and waffles are all the rage here. Yes, fried chicken and waffles. Now I happen to like both on occasion but I can't bring myself to try this combination. It just sounds..Unappetizing to me. Any unusual food fads in your area? Or maybe you have a personal favorite that many people would consider unusual?

I don't know if it's considered unusual....but I absolutely love to mix my mashed potatoes with applesauce and then I dip my bread rolls in it. One of my favorites since childhood 😀

I've never run across that before but I'm curious. Did you come up with this or pick it up from a friend or family member?

I use to tick Mom off by mixing my mashed taters with her home made baked beans. When she asked me why I told her, "It helps to gag down the potatos". But in reality I love them both.

Chicken and waffles is delicious.

I also eat pickles with ranch and flaming hot cheetos with cream cheese.

Chicken and waffles were/are part of PA food. Our version was cut up chicken meat with gravy over the waffles.

Then there is waffles and ice cream.

Still can't figure out why celerey and peanut butter is a food combo.

Some of my fondest memories back in collage were from heading out into the everglades for some relaxing bass fishing with an endless supply of beer & donuts at 7:00 in the morning.

Not only are they a tasty breakfast combination, but for some reason, we never seemed to care if we came back with no fish.

Biscuits, gravy, and cantalope. My mom craved it when she was pregnant
with me and it carried over. She and I have eaten that for breakfast on
many occasions. Used to drive my dad crazy.

I put ketchup on a lot of things and I always get looks when I put ketchup on scalloped potatoes.

As a kid I dipped my carrot sticks in ketchup.

My stress food is green olived and chocolate. Dont dip olives in chocolate but have to eat them at the same time.

I don't think it's considered a Southern thing, but since I am from the South I will just assume it is :upsidedow...but we used to have bread with every meal, be it a slice of white bread, a biscuit, etc. So I guess I just decided to use my bread to put my applesauce and mashed potatoes on. I really don't remember where it came from...as far back as I can remember I love eating it that way 🙂 My sister does like to eat mashed potatoes on her roll too, but she thinks mixing it with applesauce is revolting :rowfull:

I used to do it in elementary school as well because the mashed potatoes they gave us had no salt, pepper, or butter and they didn't offer us those things either! So it gave it a more appetizing appeal because that is the meal we got every Monday at school in kindergarten-5th grade: mashed potatoes, applesauce, a roll, a chicken leg and a carton of milk.

I even remember when I was REALLY young...like 1st-3rd grade, lunch was 75 cents...now it's almost $4....wow! :hysteriatrain:

When I was in elementary school in the 60s they didn't offer a prepared lunch. You brought your own and could buy a half pint of milk or juice for 3 cents. They also had desert, a small container of ice cream with a wooden spoon. That set you back a nickle.

For half of my 4th grade year I attended a one room school. The school housed students from 4th through 6th grade. Yep, just like you see on television or in the movies. It did have a basement which also served as a classroom, and the bathrooms were down there. No outhouses I'm happy to say. There were two female teachers who served as judge, jury and executioner. After the Pledge of Allegiance had been recited they would call on random students to stand and recite a Bible verse. If you had nothing to offer or made a mistake a few licks from a wooden paddle would be forthcoming. It was a very different world back then.

Never been to the Everglades but beer and donuts for breakfest? Oh yeah, been there, back in the day. 😀

:wow::wow::wow::wow::wow: Bugman just how old ARE you?!?!?!? (J/k...😉 )

I turned 56 a few months ago. I grew up in what was then a largely rural part of Kansas. The school was surrounded by farms and located on a gravel road. We called it spook rock road because it was quite eerie at night, and supposedly haunted. That gravel road has been a four lane paved road for many years, and the farmland transformed into business parks and retail outlets, surrounded by cookie-cutter subdivisions. The school building is long gone.

While in Tallahassee with my darling girlfriend this last weekend I found out that celery and banana's taste really damn good together. Who would have thought? I just tried them together to be silly, and found out....damn that is tasty.
