Just wanted to share a peculiar twist of my own tickling experiences, and see if anyone out there had anything similar.
I have narcolepsy. Most people know this as the disorder that makes you fall asleep instantly without warning at random moments -- but I don't do that (yet.) Actually the symptoms are numerous, various and sometimes bizarre. One is called cataplexy -- a malfunction in my sleep paralysis mechanism that makes me lose all muscle tension if I experience a stab of emotion -- if I get mad, startled, or (especially) when I laugh. If I can't either stop laughing quickly or slump against something, I will straight up just fall down to the ground and lie there motionless until I calm down. As you might guess, the implication of this with tickling is that I never need to be chained up or bound -- the tickling itself provides the restraint. Once I get to laughing (which happens quickly as I am VERY ticklish) I can't move at all, no matter how much I want to get away, except for the occasional desperate twitch and breathless laughter. As long as the tickler keeps tickling, I'm totally immobilized -- the paralysis doesn't hurt or anything, and I regain muscle control as soon as I can stop laughing. Inside I'm DYING to get away (and at the same time loving it!) but there's no way I can move. Though cataplexy is an annoying little disability in some situations (like carrying fragile objects when a friend makes a joke!), in a lot of ways I think this is probably a major convenience as I love being tickled helplessly, and I know if I could move my muscles I'd fight and flail around... it's just like being tied up, with no strings attached.
Any other narcoleptics with tickling experience, or anyone with other neurological quirks that have odd consequences for your tickling?
