Update for those who asked about Katherine 2/7/2003

For those who have e-mailed me and Kandy about Katherine and how she is doing.
🙂 Katherine is doing some better each day, she is working with a speech therapist and physical therapy to work on her motor skills. The worst is over I feel Praise God! She just has to heal now, on the inside as well as the out side. This will take some time.

I would like to give my heartfelt "thank you" to all who have gave of your time, support, love and most importantly your prayers! I can't begin to thank all of you that have support Katherine and Kandy 🙂 It just proves that there are wonderful people here at our community I bet there are not many forums that will join in prayer for someone that they have never met. Y'all have proved that to be wrong! Thank all of you that have showed your love! It will never be forgotten!

So glad to hear that Katherine is improving! Sounds like the worst is over now onto the healing! Thanks for e-mailing me and letting me know. Although I don't post much, I do read them and have been concerned.

Katherine always has made great progress so it seems, I pray that she will have a full recovery, and her family and Kandy are also in our prayers. I know this must be very stressful for her family and Kandy, seeing her like this. Keep the faith and be strong! God will prevail!!!🙂

For Kandy, please don't get too discouraged because Katherine doesn't know you right now 🙁 I am sure that her memory will come back in time. Her brain has to heal itself. You are the type of friend that I'm sure we all would love to have. Not many would give their life up and be there 24/7 like you. I commend you for being so faithful!

For Tracy, thanks for keeping us updated. I am glad to know that you trusted me enough and e-mailed me back when I e-mailed you. Thank you for that!

Just to those of you who have asked, Katherine has a restful night, she is eating better now. She was having problems swallowing but that seems to be getting better. However, her speech is still slurred and she gets frustrated easily trying to form a sentence. It's like she is having to learn all that over again. Kandy told me that she has trouble spelling words, simple words and that is agrravating to Kat. But all in all she is doing much better, she has a great deal of therapy and physical therapy to go through and a lot of healing inside as well as the outside.

I would like to ask a small favor, if you don't mind please keep her and Kandy in your prayers. As well as Kat's folks. Thanks everyone, your support, love and prayers have meant a lot! Words can't express the gratitude I feel for your prayers! Thank you so much!

To all of that have shown your love and support and sent out prayers for Katherine and myself, I wanted to express to each and everyone of you how grateful we are! Words can't really express the appreciation and how wonderful it made me feel seeing the out pouring of Love!

To our friend kurchatovium, I got the get well and printed it out for Katherine. And what you said about Love is the foundation upon which God builds all his miacles. I believe that! And God sure has sent many of his Angels our way!

Katherine is doing good health wise, her healing she still has a long road ahead of her, but she is a strong willed person and she is a Christian and I believe that God will bring her back to us : I have to believe that!
Lori, Mandy's Mama came to see Katherine today. But Katherine didn't know her, she didn't think it a good idea to bring Mandy who is only 4. But she brought pictures that Mandy had colored for Kat and she made a couple of get well cards for her too. I am just praying that her memory comes back, it's hard being with her and her not knowing me

Does Kat remember who SHE is? Or is it sort of a partial memory loss she has, where she remembers who she is, but can't remember EVERYONE she knew?

As for her not knowing you, if her memory doesn't come all the way back (which I hope it DOES, because I know it'd make things easier for everyone) , just try your best to let her get to know you again. You and other people are watching out for her...so I'd assume she knows: that for some reason , you care about her enough to watch her and help her recover. For now, that's a pretty nice new memory for her to have, I'd think.

Still, I hope she regains most, if not all, of what her body lost. At least she never lost the will to fight and recover. Keep fighting, both of you. 🙂

I'm very happy to hear that Katherine is improving. No one ever heals as fast as they'd like. I'll continue to pray for you both, especially for patience and peace of mind. I'm sure that as she tries to recover her memory it will be frustrating for you and even more so for her. God watch over you both and your families.

To answer He-man's Question

Unfortunately Katherine has no memory at this time It is something that can repair itself given time...being surrounded with her family and Kandy, them sharing stories of her growing up the doctor said that was good. They were told that the brain has to heal itself. Not only does she remember who she is, I am told that her personality has changed. Her laugh, even her sneeze it different.

The doctors say that this could be a short term thing or a long term thing. They really do not know, we just have to wait and see. 🙁

She is having neurological deficits (eg, temporary vision loss, or a ... injury include slowed thinking, memory and concentration. She gets really agitated because she can't form a sentence, or think of a word that she wants to say. And she seems very confused. She is getting therapy to help this daily, hopefully it will help.

The more she uses her brain, the better. So they are giving her things like math, english....words and she takes the word and is suppose to make a sentence with it. So far no luck there, picture association they give her flash cards with pictures of things, some things she doesn't know and later she will forget what they are. It's just going to take some time for her to heal.

Again, I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all who have joined us in prayers for Katherine, Kandy and her family. It really means a lot, and some how just saying thank you isn't enough but I truly am grateful as well as Kandy for all your concern and prayers!

So glad to hear that Katherine is doing better, I hope that she will continue to do so! I am sure her memory will come back in time. The is always hope! Prayers still with her, her family, Kandy and Tracy!

I think there is an excellent chance of Katherine regaining all of her memory. Recent scientific studies show that memory is stored in multiple places in the brain so it is near impossible to injure a part of the brain and erase most of the memories of that person. It is the restablishing of connections to those memories that is what Katherine is doing now. Its sort of like a library with many copies of the same books. If there is an earthquake only a few books get damaged but most are all in tact. The stairs and hallways to those books might be damaged and until those are repaired getting to those books is not possible. Once repaired then the information is once again available. I hope I did not bore you too much with the scientific stuff I just though it might help cheer up Kandy.😀
