The 6 remaining Virgin locations in the US will be closed by this summer.

Los Angeles, San Franciso, Denver, Orlando, and 2 in NYC.

Holy crap. First Tower Records, now this.

Never mind that I do my own music shopping at much smaller independent shops, not just because they tend to be more reasonable but because I can find stuff that's out of the mainstream.

That's what RIAA gets for sucking ass. Add that to a recession from Hell, and they get kicked right in the financial balls just like the rest of us.

I have very fond memories of Virgin Records (the record label) in its early years - Ivor Cutler, Lol Coxhill, XTC, Magazine and many others who probably couldn't have gotten signed elsewhere.

Virgin Atlantic airlines used to give a little plastic bag with earphones (for movies and such), earplugs, a sleeping mask, etc. in it, emblazoned with the question, "Is this your first time?"
