Would you use a coupon to help pay for dinner when you going out of a first day?

That would be so f*cking funny. I sat here and laughed for like, 10 minutes after reading the question...

Are you asking in the context of "Would you do it? Because I'm considering it."

...Or are you just wondering?

Probably not on a first date, as much as I enjoy a bargain.

Using a coupon on a date is just as bad as releasing gas. wait, is that a bad thing? :idunno:

My advice would be to never use a coupon or discount of any kind on a first date, nor a second date. Save those frugal practices for after you are in a relationship.

That's good advice milagros.

Although, I did once go on a date with a man I wasn't particularly attracted to but my friends were encouraging me to go and he did seem nice enough when he asked me so I accepted and went. I'm the type that always wants to pay for everything or at least half of everything on my first few dates anyway, just because then at the end of the night we both don't feel that I owe him anything and what happens next is my choice. Anyway on our first date he took me to a theme park he used to work at so we got in free and everything the whole day was free except food. He wouldn't let me pay for the food because it was two meals for the price of one anyway. I didn't mind that at all. What I did mind, strangely enough, was that the WHOLE time he talked non stop about tickling his ex. This was a few years before I had found TMF or even realised that other people in the world were into tickling the same way I am. I hardly said two words the whole day because I had no idea what to say. I just felt embarrassed. He probably went away thinking that I thought he was a weirdo but that didn't stop him trying. A few days later we were at my friends house and we were listening to music. He hid one of her CDs and was laughing when we were looking for it and couldn't find it so we knew he had hidden it. He wouldn't tell us where it was and somehow we both ended up pinning him to the floor. He was pleading with us not to tickle him even though that wasn't our intention anyway. So, of course my friend, whilst sitting on him and pinning his arms above his head, was encouraging me to tickle him. Reluctantly I did knowing full well that he wouldn't tell where the cd was. I say reluctantly because my tickling is very private and I don't want my friends or anyone knowing about my tickle fetish (apart from people I am intimate with and I wasn't intimate with him).

Wow, I just told a whole story that has nothing to do with the subject lol. You just reminded me of him because he's the only one I have been on a "cheap date" with. Cheap dates don't put me off. Not everyone has money. Unfortunately plenty of women don't think the same way I do. It's strange how the reason I never saw him again was that his tickling was too in my face before I had got to know him and not that he didn't have much money. If I had found TMF before I had met him and realised tickling is more accepted than I knew about then I wouldn't have been as embarrassed and things might have been different. I just thought I'd add that my friend who was encouraging me to tickle him has in no way got any sort of tickle fetish. Some people just do tickle for playful fun without it meaning anything but my problem was that it's more than just playful fun to me and him and I certainly didn't want to do that with someone I didn't know or with my friend involved.

Mmmm. I don't think a coupon is ideal on a first date. Of course, I always want to pay half and if he had a coupon, then my half would be less, so it's absurd that I don't think you should use one. Nevertheless....I guess it's the focus on the frugality that bugs me. Anyone I meet who spends all our first moments together telling me how he saves money or what great bargains he gets, or complaining about the price of something is going to turn me off. I just find it tasteless.

That said, though, I'm all for a cheap first date! It can be hot dogs from a cart and a walk on the beach and that's great. But no coupons.

I don't know....I probably wouldn't mind if he brough coupons on the first date. Hell, I don't make alot of money (yet, hah!) so I KNOW how the poor guy would feel. When I'm out on a date, I do try not to order anything too expensive. But, if I feel like just a salad, I'm gonna order it. I'm easy. :dogpile:

Ditto

Now, after the laughter subsided, my initial thought was "how tacky", but then as is the case with so many circumstances, I figured it depends ON those circumstances. For instance, if you're chatting with the person, and you both find you have the same favorite restaurant, and you happen to have an entertainment book with a half off entree deal, I don't see anything wrong with "You know what, I've got a buy one get one free, want the free one?" or something like that. In general though, I'd agree with Milagros.

If you two get together , using coupons is very understandable , but on something like a first or second date not a good idea .

Would I use coupons?...Hell yeah! If I need to impress my date then she isn't the one I want to be with anyway. Eventually she is going to have to realize that some days I won't be able to afford a steak dinner and accept that she is with a broke-azz. I don't hide my financial struggles. I would tell her to go date a doctor if she wants a guy like that. :idontwann

HHMMMMMM :veryhappy

if you don't have a great deal of money i see no reason not to use a coupon..and besides, if you don't want your date to know you are using one, work that out with the waiter/waitress after you have been seated..excuse yourself and go talk to them privately...but heck i don't see the big deal myself..our first date was very cheap..we went to a movie, and i wouldn't have probably even noticed if he used a movie coupon..

:justlips:
I love saving money! I have a movie purse that I use only when I go to the movies to smuggle snacks in. I also will go to a matinee showing of a movie to cut down on costs.
I prefer to do something active on a first date because I'm an active girl. Walking costs nothing, and leads to nice conversation.
Breakfast or lunch is cheaper than dinner, and it's also just as nice. I'm not into drinking alcohol, but I'm completely into coffee and fruity summer beverages. Yummmmmmm.
When I go out to eat with anyone, not just a date, and they have a coupon for a half off entree, I'll use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😛

I like that! It keeps it casual, friendly and real.

I’ve been on dates that I’m betting cost more than most people pay in rent… and been turned off completely by pompous attitude. I’ve also been on dates that would leave change from a twenty, that had me smiling for days.

It’s all about making it fun and connecting… not money.

well this is how i see it...next saturday my husband and i celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary...and i can choose between a restaurant that charges one hundred dollars a person, or a much less expensive restaurant..and i will choose the less expensive..it's about having a good time, which can be done with not much money...
