No. 7 Utah beats No. 4 Alabama 31-17 in Sugar Bowl

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Utah is the best of the BCS busters.

Brian Johnson threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, and the No. 7 Utes upset fourth-ranked Alabama 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl on Friday night to finish 13-0.

With the victory, Utah became the first team from a non-BCS conference to win two BCS bowls.

Johnson's pinpoint passing led Utah to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and the Utes refused to wilt when Alabama pulled to 21-17 early in the second half.

Utah's defense was equally impressive, intercepting John Parker Wilson twice and sacking him eight times, with the seventh sack forcing a fumble that sent crimson-clad Alabama fans streaming for the exits with just more than five minutes to go.

After surging to No. 1 in the rankings with a 12-0 regular season, Alabama closed the season with two consecutive losses, the first against Florida in the Southeastern Conference championship game.

More proof positive that the BCS is a friggin joke. I think the Utes should get part of the title.

if the voters vote them up to number 2 and florida wins the national title game... as the rules bcs state utah would get a share of the national title.. unfortunatly i doubt they get voted to number 2.. was awesome to see them beat alabama though

This is for all you SEC ppl out there. YOUR CONFERENCE IS NOT ANY BETTER THEN THE REST OF THEM SO SHUT UP ALREADY!!! I'll give you guys the fact that you have won 2 straight national title and your going for a third later on this week, but remember that the Big Ten , the conference you have been more then happy to label as inferior, is almost if not even with you guys in Bowl games between the two conferences since 06 when this whole argument started. For every blowout of Ohio State, there was Penn State over Tennesse or Michigan over Florida to promptly shove your theory down the toilet.


Also a damn shame teams like Utah and Boise State are getting jipped out of playing for the National title. This game proves that no champion in college football will be considered legitamate unless there is a playoff. Cause it doesn't matter if Florida or OU win the game, teams like Utah, USC and Texas all have valid arguments as well. Bout time we let the teams decide it on the field instead of all the loud mouths at ESPN telling you who is great and why and then their opinions spreading through the country without no real evidence to suggest otherwise.
