Hi Morden,
We're glad you like the series.
I'm going to take this opportunity to explain where we're coming from with the new change in story format we're planning. I'm sure some of you have heard part of this before, but with a lot of new readers coming on board lately; some readers haven't so here we go.
Trust us, we will be story lines in future projects, but they won't be bogged down relying on issue after issue. The underlying story behind the time travel book is Julie and Kelly will be traveling through time in order to collect as much of the original enchanted gold deposits as they can. This gold has original ties to the Norse Gods, so after the introductory story in issue 1, our next stop for issue #2 aill be a Viking village.
An accident with the ships time warp computer will cause the next jump to send the girls in the wrong direction. You'll never know where they will end up until we post the next cover.
We try our best to stay on schedule with a new book every month. Life isn't perfect so we can be late from time to time. With nbew readers coming on board every month, this type of story direction will make it easier fo them to join in. At the same time it will make for a more enjoyable read for our die hard fans.
The current VU series is a big undertaking. We only have 10 to 11 pages a month to work in a story, and action revolving 10+ characters. With our time schedule, if we made it a 21 or 21 page book like a normal comic, we wouldn't be able to get it out on a monthly basis.
When coloring was my only job during my heyday at DC comics, I was doing 3 books a month or around 66 pages a month. Now outside of working on VU, I'm a freelance artist, I run a original art business for comic art and commissions for an artist friend of mine as well as run my ebay business.
When he's not drawing VU, FTKL has a day job as well as teaches a martial arts fighting class and preforms in Ren Fair shows.
All in all we stay pretty busy. These new one shot formats will take some of the pressure off some of the story planning. For example , "we can't do this with this character in issue 5 because she'll have to be doing this by issue 9" That sort of thing.
The idea behind the time travel story concept is we'll have the same main characters each issue wich will jump into different time based fantasy situations. Some of the characters and stories will have ties to what you've seen in the regular VU series. Instead of it bogging down the sotry, it will be more like "Oh that's where that came from", or "That's what made that character that way". etc.
With the VU one shots, you'll be able to see stories involving your favorite characters (and some new ones) in a one on one setting. We'll also be taking some of the characters in new directions.
The main thing we'll accomplish with this kind of story is we'll be able to slow the action down in order to make individual torture sessions last more than a few panels. We can take our time and not have to rush the action in order to get everything crammed into 10 pages.
It's going to be a fun ride and will really benefit you as a reader as well as us, the creators.
As I always say, keep the faith !
And in the meantime...
