4u, I think you may want to have a look at a very poorly timed article on AJC.com regarding your New York Mets.
According to the article, written by the "Staff" of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it stated that the "Mets may soon implode". The article talked about Carlos Delgado's 230 batting average, and Billy Wagner's "Rants". Rarely have I seen such an unprofessional article written by a staff of a newspaper.
The Mets, in spite of missing Pedro for a long period of time, and having recent turmoil, are only one game out of first, heading into their four game series in Atlanta this week.
Another disturbing part about the article was this: The city's own team, the Braves, have some of their top starters, as well as virtually their entire bullpen, on the disabled list. Their first base "stud", Mark Texiara, playing for a megabucks contract, is hitting less than .200, and their top hitter, Chipper Jones, looks like he winces with every swing.
Atlanta's pitching staff: Hmm, John Smoltz, our top starter, or closer, depending on what you believe this week, is on the DL, and wont be coming off anytime soon. He may not pitch again for us this year. We have another starter, one Michael William Hampton, who has not thrown a pitch for us in three years, and may never pitch again in a big league uniform. Our starting "staff", consists of the hopefully consistent Tim Hudson, young rookie phenom Jair Jurrgens, 42 year old Tom Glavine, who has pitched surprising well so far this year, and whomever we can run out there as our fourth and fifth starters. Except for Hudson, none of those names will send fear into opposing hitters.
Hopefully this article wont come back to haunt the Braves this week. Were I the Mets, and if I read this article, I would post it on their clubhouse bulletin board as motivation. By Thursday night, around, say, 1030, hopefully the writers of the AJC, and whoever wrote that stupid article, wont be eating their words, after the Mets take, say, three out of four from Atlanta.
So, 4u, as you can see with my post, I can be fair when it comes to the Braves or the Atlanta media making poorly placed comments. I know you were not happy with me last month when I posted about the Mets broadcasters comments about the Braves. Now, it is the Atlanta media who needs to shut up. Let these still two good teams settle their remaining twelve games on the field with hits, runs, and pitching, and not in the media with stupid articles like the one I mentioned.
