OK, who are the "bad guys" in films you can't help but like even though they are truly bad???? I'll start this off with three:

1) Dr. Evil

2) Darth Vader- maybe too easy a choice since he is kind of the archetype of sci-fi badass, but I always liked Darth and no one wanted to see him die. Fair?

3) Bill the Butcher (Gangs of NY): I understand Bill killed Leo's dad and fucked over the Irish but 20 years had gone by and Bill the Butcher treated Leo's character like a son. Plus, the Butcher was a serious badass! You couldn't help but respect him even though (like Gecko), he was a scumbag.

Any others??????

Well, not that prob many will know what im talkin bout here but...

Taylor George from The Incredible Hulk episode "Like A Brother"..this guy was the #1 pimp daddy of the 70s if ya ask me😛

Gene Hackman as Lex in the Superman movies, and I do not know if this would count since it is tv, but Larry Hagman as J.R. in Dallas.

Hannibal Lector!

Okay, so he's a murdering cannibal.....but he's so freaking cool and collected and intelligent and suave. And he ALWAYS takes out the assholes in the movies! You GOTTA love him!

Mimi

love Lex Luthor (no matter who has played him...Gene Hackman,John Shea or Michael Rosenbaum)

The Joker(the original one...Cesar Romero...i know i'm cheating doing the tv thing...but i preferred the campy batman to the movie)

The Grinch because eventually he had a change of heart

Hannibal Lecter, Darth Vader, John Doe (from 7)

I'm going back a few decades....Dr. Pretorious from "The Bride of Frankenstein". Truly a madman and one of the most "evil-sounding" names of all time.

Drew

Professor Moriarity... anyone with the cajones to take on Sherlock Holmes deserves some admiration.

Not a film but my vote goes to James Gandolfini, "Tony Soprano"...

XOXO

Definately Moriarty as protrayed in the Jeremy Brett version of the stories.

Ian McDiarmid as Darth Sidious/Senator & Emperor Palpatine! God his voice just drips venomous juice when he's talking to Luke at the end of ROTJ. Cheesier than a dairy with a gas leak, but oh so wonderful.

It is quite safe from your pitiful, little band!

Darth Vader, gottabee! 😀😀😀 As Ewan MacGregor says...
He's do-able as a villain.

Sauron in LOTR. Just how does someone scare the shit out of millions of peeps when he's nothing but an eye ad a few whispers? Awesome!

And one for the future...
I rather suspect Ralph Fiennes is going to be pretty smeg-hot as Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Darth Vader gets top honors, absolutely.

Doctor No and most of the other Bond villains.

Ohhhhhhhh No! There goes Tokyo! GODZILLA!!! (history teaches again & again how nature points out the folly of mannnnnnnnnnnnn)

And, honorable tongue-in-cheek mention goes to...

Mojo Jojo! 🙄

It is not right, that I mentioned as a villain, with the other villains! Because I do not act like other villains. They are not like me, I do not resemble them, I am not like them, we are not similar, we are are different, because we do different things, we do not do all thgings the same, we are seperate!

To take this in a different direction:

Sephiroth from the Sony Play Station game Final Fantasy VII (and yes, he counts as a big screen villain now with Advent Children due out next year). A video game character you ask? Why you ask? Here is why:

*Spoilers below*

This ultimate warrior was created as a mix between the cells of a deadly alien invader known as Jenova and humans, then infused with the planet's energy and life force. Growing up under the eyes of a cold and ruthless corporation which exploited his skills, he was fine until he discovered the truth of his genesis.

He researched the matter, believing himself to be an Ancient- a super race of humans that Jenova nearly drove to extinction mellennia ago. He blamed humanity for this. At this point you feel sorry for him.

Then he went mad.

The epitome of "Badass" in a video game, Sephiroth enters the plot killing the president of the corporation the good guys are after- found slumped over in his desk with Sephiroth's masamuse katana sticking out of his back.

You hear the story of the flashback, revealing why Sephiroth went nuts.

Then later you're in pursuit of him, trying to cross a marsh filled with a deadly 30 foot tall serpent creature capable of wiping out your whole party in a heartbeat and having to flee from it. On the other side you find one impaled on a tree- Sephiroth's work. Even after replays that chills me.

He reveals his grand scheme to destroy the world, absorb its spiritual energy and become a god.

Then he does the one unforgivable act, the one item that dooms him to infamy in the anals of video game villainy. When you least expect it, one of your female party members, the heroes would be girlfriend, is cut down in cold blood- Sephiroth falling from behind her and running her through with his sword- arguably the most lamented character death in RPG history.

Now you know you need to destroy this fiend. He's chased to the barren end of the world, but you arrive too late to stop him from summoning his tool of world destruction and he seals himself up in the center of the planet.

Dealing with massive creatures known as WEAPONs set on the loose by Sephiroth's plans, you finally at the end of the game return to confront him. There you have to put up a massive battle against him in a half finished angelic form, where he even summons the powers of a super nova against you. The battle is accompanied by an awesome orchestrated choir piece in Latin that blew the minds of many a player away when they first heard it- again, emphasizing the epic nature of the battle. It comes down in the end to a 1 on 1 sword duel, where he is vanquished.

Style for his cold green eyes, long silver hair, black outfit, his dire villainy, a mix of sympathy for his Frankenstein, tragic creation, andfor being an unforgivable, vicious badass- you almost root for him through the course of the game. He's the bad guy you hate and admire at the same time, determined to kill, yet well crafted enough that in your 40+ hour quest to slay him, you cannot help but like him.

How's about another nod to Sci-Fi with Star Trek 2's Khan Noonian Singh?
No...no, you can't get away...from hell's heart, I stab at thee...for hate's sake, I spit my last breath...at thee...

Or Roy Batty from Bladerunner?
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.

And just to get away from the geek stuff, the always wonderful Alan Rickman is surely deserving of not one but two places here. First with the Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Wait a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing me to hurt the public, and they love him for it? That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas!

and second for the best movie villain I think I've ever seen, Hans Gruber in Die Hard
I wanted this to be professional. Efficient, adroit, cooperative, not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way, so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life.

I am an exceptional thief, Mrs. McClane. And since I'm moving up to kidnapping, you should be more polite.

Green eyes? Funny that, I remember them being blue. Anyway, doesn't matter. Yes he is the most God-damnable villain I ever knew from a video game. His murder of Aeris had my 18 year old self nearly in tears. (She was summoning a counter-summon to prevent his summons from destroying the planet. She did suceed before he ran her through, by Sephy's prompt rise to deity-hood blocked it and only by destroying the bastard completely was it possible for Aeris's summon to manifest and destroy Meteor. What the hell was her summons called again?)

I did hear that originally it was supposedly possible to raise her back to life, but it got left out at the last moment. It would make sense as it is impossible to gain her Level 4 Limit Break in time for her to use it before Sephiroth kills her.

And 40 hours? My timer got stuck at 99.59 and it was that way for another thirty at least! 😀 Mind you, I did do every side quest, every mission, bred my own gold chocobo, took down both extra Weapons (Emerald and Ruby) and topped it all off by getting all characters into the 90's for the levels and gaining and using to effect every limit break for every character, with the exception of Aeris for whom this was impossible. (Cloud was stuck at level 99 for bloody ages.) I also managed to create my own Master Materia by maxing out all materia in each colour and then fusing them in the Cosmo Canyon observatory, giving me a total of two of each Master Materia. (The others were a prize for exchanging the reward from slotting Emerald Weapon with the guy in Kalm if I remember correctly.)

Damn I loved that game. 😀 I also loved the way I killed Sephiroth as the bugger absorbed two Knights of the Round summonses in his second Seraph-Sephiroth form, then got iced because his Super Nova summons tipped Tifa's limit break. I de-walled him with Cloud then hit all seven reels with the first four going on double and she pounded his arse into dust. :bouncybou God that was good to see. Heh.

I really have tried to lose the subsequent mano-y-mano battle between him and Cloud, but Cloud is so powerful by then that it's impossible. Even if Sephiroth is given time to wound Cloud, he counter-attacks (even without the materia of the same name) and takes down Seph in one shot. Much more fun sending the gitbag home in slices with the Omnislash. I never got to see the Lionheart in VIII, but I heard it's even more powerful than that. How it could be boggles belief. Info anyone?

I second that. Mojo needs love.😀

Lemme see....well, actually, I tend to like nearly all villains. I often find myself wishing movies would play more to the truth and have the side of evil win more often.

Skeletor, wether it's the movie version (he was creepy..until he gained the Power of Grayskull..then he just looked goofy...but he was still a badass), the Filmation cartoon version, or the Mike Young Productions cartoon/comic version (from the 2002 MOTU )

The 2002 one I like the best.

He had some of the best scenes, like

Skeletor: "I have it..to lure He-Man, we'll simply capture that brat, Prince Allen"

Evil-Lynn :"You mean 'Adam'"

S:"Whatever". (lol why would he give a rat's ass what the kid's name is, after all. lol)

or when he was punishing his warriors for failing again:

E: "We're sorry, have mercy!!"
S:"Mercy?..I didn't hear 'please'"

All warriors : "PLEEEAASSE!!"

S: "Hm....I think........NOT!ahahaAHAHAAA!"

gotta love the bonehead. 😀

And while we're on villans who've lost ...face..(ahaha!..uh,nevermind..)

we can't forget one MMPR villan: Ed

"THAT'S ZEDD, YOU IDIOT!!"

whoops, sorry Ed...😛

Yep. I agree with Mimi...gotta be Hannibal. He's so suave and charming even when he's servin'' up brains. My favorite line of his is "Im having an old friend for dinner". Teehee.

Majestic

thats a tough one. However, if i had to pick one villian out of all the villians i've ever seen, it would have to be David Xanatos, from "Gargoyals".

Now, this was an awesome show that had mixtures of shakespear, english folklore(ie, arthur), and a variety of other things that made it one of the best cartoon series i've ever seen. Add into this one of the most brilliant and suave charactrs (his voice was done by the same actor who played Ryker from St: the next generation) and you had a great series.

PS: Sephoroth was one of the most bad ass RPG vilians of all times and has appeared in several Square games (like cloud). And his eyes were green 😉 I also loved the turks from that game, especially Reno, the bad ass turk 😉

PSS: Yes, the lionheart is even more devistating then the Ominiclash. In fact, it's rediculously so, if i remember right. You end up hitting the enemy like 20 times for 9999 per hit, i think, Been a whle but i remember that was one of the many things i didn';t like about FF8, my least favourite FF game. now, FF10, that was the best to date, though i haven't finished FF10-2 yet.

How about O-ren Ishii in Kill Bill?😛

O-Ren Ishii: As your leader, I encourage you from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, to question my logic. If you're unconvinced that a particular plan of action I've decided is the wisest, tell me so, but allow me to convince you and I promise you right here and now, no subject will ever be taboo. Except, of course, the subject that was just under discussion. The price you pay for bringing up either my Chinese or American heritage as a negative is - I collect your fucking head. Just like this fucker here. Now, if any of you sons of bitches got anything else to say, now's the fucking time. I didn't think so.

O-Ren Ishii: You didn't think it was gonna be that easy, did you?
The Bride: You know, for a second there, yeah, I kinda did.
O-Ren Ishii: Silly rabbit.
The Bride: Trix are for...
O-Ren Ishii: ...kids.
